Physically – they stretch the hips, open the shoulders and chest, build strength in the legs, arms and back muscles and can even alleviate back and neck pain. Mentally and emotionally they invite courage and vulnerability, help us to face fears and remain calm in the face of difficult situations.

Props are always my best friends during practice. I especially love using blocks to open my shoulders and chest before I practice deeper heart opening poses, so simple yet effective!

I have a love and hate relationship with backbend. Working towards a deeper backbend pose doesn’t give me the best feeling at that moment, but I do get an unique and positive feeling of heart opening afterwards. That’s why I keep coming back to it 💙
