Can you balance between Running & Bodybuilding?

First of all, it depends on what is your definition of "balance"? If you want to be just average to good at both, being "good" means being able to complete a 10k run under 60min, and achieve that 40-43" inches Chest + 15-17" inches Biceps, the answer is possible yes.

However, if your definition of "balance" is being able to run long and fast like a competitive runner, at the same time achieve and maintain like a competitive bodybuilder's level physique, the answer is 97% No, (the other 3% is extra-ordinary, and if they choose to focus on one they might be an elite/pro in that field).

It's all about goals and priority.

0後、零運動、身體差、日夜顛倒,兩個月前我萬萬想不到我也可以成為一個長跑運動員,最近,我完成了人生第一個十公里賽事,另外兩個半馬比賽都即將來臨,其實開始跑步第一天,已經輕輕寫過一篇脫廢宣言,可是當中困難重重,甚或是我自己都怕教壞人,或者被列入失敗個案,於是便沒有再update大家,我知道這種想法非常無謂,事實上練跑過程中我已經得到最想要的:規律的運動、有系統的訓練、強壯的身體。現在成功了,我希望跟MORE的讀者們分享一個虛弱中女如何從零開始跑到十公里的經過,加上實際戰略。
為了跑步賽事,幾十歲人重新開始寫日記,因為我要記錄下每一次訓練的成果和感受,現在看回第一頁記憶猶新:我那三分鐘收工的紀錄,當時認為,我可能還是沒法完成比賽了。頭一星期,莫講話任何系統訓練,就算要我跑五分鐘,都非常困難,不要問我這副身子是如何練回來的,反正來到今時今日,過去已經不重要。既然程度、資質如此低劣,連教練都嚇一下,我們只好從「跑五分鐘」開始,跑五分鐘,休息十分鐘,再跑五分鐘,如是者希望無論如何龜速,每次見教練加起上來至少有跑到30分鐘。大概用了一星期,終於脫離廢人境界,咦?其實又比我想像中快喎!
接下來的幾星期,終於可以進入真正的系統訓練,每次跑800米至一公里熱身,然後開始拉筋,在拉筋之前先緩步跑的好處是身體開始warm up, 血液開始流通,皮膚、肌肉都暖起來,便不會出現拉傷的情況,拉的幅度也會比起完全冷的身體提升了。你懂我的,我會嘗試挑戰定律,於是有一次,訓練前輕輕拉了一下,就開始長跑,結果不足一公里,腿部便受不了開始痛,已經很久沒有發作的小腹痛,更是非常嚴重,我認輸了,往後的日子我都非常重視熱身跑,十公里的比賽,用兩公里來熱身再拉筋,絕對正常不過。warm up 800米,拉筋後,教練為我設計出不同的系統,有時跑15分鐘,休息,再跑15分鐘,有時跑兩公里乘二,有時十分鐘三次,我每次都可以僅僅完成,然後每個session加長,20分鐘兩set, 3公里兩set, 終於到一天他認為時機到了,就會叫我連跑5、6公里,然後又回復跑sessions一星期,如是者每兩星期,便有一次長度新紀錄,有效率之餘令我覺得甚是鼓舞。記得三個月前的專欄,我把跑步形容為公司焗我去做的工作,現在為了跑步,我願意作出某程度的犧牲,做不完的工作不理會,注意休息睡眠,完全徹底地拒絕任何酒精飲品,因為經驗證明,一飲酒,功力便大打折扣,有時我會問自己,其實這算是犧牲嗎?答案是:跑步令我重新審視我的生活態度和人生意義,現在,我會選擇真正對自己有益的生活方式。
