*As the coronavirus spreads across the US, tens of millions of Americans may not seek medical help either because they are uninsured or undocumented. That puts everyone in society at greater risk.
In a report last month, the Center for Health Security at Johns Hopkins estimated the United States has a total of 160,000 ventilators available for patient care (with at least an additional 8,900 in the national stockpile).
A planning study run by the federal government in 2005 estimated that if the United States were struck with a moderate pandemic like the 1957 influenza, the country would need more than 64,000 ventilators. If we were struck with a severe pandemic like the 1918 Spanish flu, we would need more than 740,000 ventilators — many times more than are available. The United States has roughly 2.8 hospital beds per 1,000 people. South Korea, which has seen success mitigating its large outbreak, has more than 12 hospital beds per 1,000 people. China, where hospitals in Hubei were quickly overrun, has 4.3 beds per 1,000 people. Italy, a developed country with a reasonably decent health system, has seen its hospitals overwhelmed and has 3.2 beds per 1,000 people. A moderate pandemic would mean 1 million people needing hospitalization and 200,000 needing intensive care, according to a Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security report last month. A severe pandemic would mean 9.6 million hospitalizations and 2.9 million people needing intensive care. The United States has an estimated 924,100 hospital beds, according to a 2018 American Hospital Association survey, but many are already occupied by patients at any one time. And the United States has 46,800 to 64,000 medical intensive-care unit (ICU) beds, according to the AHA. (There are an additional 51,000 ICU beds specialized for cardiology, pediatrics, neonatal, burn patients and others.)
Now, factor in how stretched-thin U.S. hospitals already are during a normal, coronavirus-free week handling usual illnesses: patients with cancer and chronic diseases, those walking in with blunt-force trauma, suicide attempts and assaults. It’s easy to see why experts are warning that if the pandemic spreads too widely, clinicians could be forced to ration care and choose which patients to save.

What is the best way to learn English?
This is probably one of the most common questions we get on Facebook. The page provides free learning resources to about 50K English teachers and learners, so we receive this question on a daily basis. The question shows that learners are either unclear about their own learning goals or simply overwhelmed by the vast amount of information on the web. Here are some suggestions:
★★★★★★★★★★★★
What do you want to achieve?
Rather than asking what the best way to learn English is, ask yourself what you want to achieve with English? Do you want to actively participate in daily conversations or publish your thesis in English? Perhaps you would like to study abroad as a graduate student? What are your goals? Having a clear set of goals and achieving them can provide you with sustained motivation, even though your goals might change down the road.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Consider external factors
Remember, external factors can affect your learning. How much time do you have every day? Do you have access to a teacher? Do you have to pass the TOEFL or IELTS in three months? Can you set aside time every day for continuous learning?
If I were learning Spanish and I had all the time in the world, I would just find some materials online, immerse myself in the language, and practice as much as possible with Spanish speakers. However, everyone's situation is different.
Most of the problems listed above can be overcome, especially with online resources, but you still need to be realistic in setting your goals. For example, it would be immensely difficult for most to commit to studying English three hours a day because of work and family obligations. The more realistic your goals are, the more likely you are to accomplish them.

★★★★★★★★★★★★
Resources
Refer to your previous answers (goals and external factors). If your goal is to speak fluently, you might want to practice in a live classroom. However, do you have the time and financial means to do so?
Online classes might be a better alternative, but you might find the format dull, causing you to quickly lose motivation. These are all factors you must consider when searching for resources.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Teachers and practice partners
Learning materials (In and out of the classroom)
Assessments and Feedback
As for learning materials, it depends on your current level and once again, your goal. You can find a suitable starting point by taking a language assessment and asking a teacher for advice. The main point is to find resources that provide comprehensible input, information that you can understand. You want to pick materials that you can MOSTLY understand so that you can focus on key features. If you pick materials that are far beyond your current abilities (e.g. a beginning Spanish learner using doctoral dissertations to learn Spanish), you might have difficulty focusing on anything and may soon give up on your studies.
Tons of free resources can be found online, but not all of them will help you accomplish your goals. For example, it would be unwise to practice speaking by only reading aloud words in a free online dictionary. You need an experienced teacher to help you find suitable materials. You can also ask your classmates and do research on your own.

Teachers
How to find the right teacher is another common question. What qualities should the “perfect” teacher possess? Do you mean a person who is responsive to all your questions? A person who is a trained and licensed educator? Or, perhaps a person who is there to be your mentor or friend? Your peers and classmates can also be effective teachers. Ask them for advice and practice with them.
★★★★★★★★★★★★

How to Set & Achieve Goals:
http://bit.ly/2Rdi0aU
Setting Goals
You need to have a clear overall goal and smaller objectives to meet. Once you have them down, talk to a school teacher or a trained professional to help you create a study plan.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Steps to take:
Know what you want to achieve.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Take a suitable language assessment (or ask a teacher) to find your starting point.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Find a teacher who can help you accomplish your language learning goals.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Create a realistic and sustainable study plan with a teacher.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Usually, your teachers will provide you with learning materials, but you can still find additional materials by asking your peers and doing research.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Study and practice with a partner or study group.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Take periodic assessments to monitor your progress.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Adjust your study plan if you do not show any progress after a couple of months. Always discuss your problems with a teacher.
⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹⊹
Take part in your own education. Do not expect others to do everything for you.
★★★★★★★★★★★★

Salsa, Afro Cuban and HipHop Fusion in Japan !
More videos on our instagram: @dancefloorgeneva
From African, Latin and Afro American origins, all these dances gathered in this short choreo that we did in Japan.
Dancers (instagram):
Saeko Sugaya (@salsaeko)
Fred Dancefloor (@freddancefloor)
Kouamé Dancefloor (@kouamedancefloor)
We had the opportunity to meet Saeko Sugaya during the Dancefloor Tour organized by Leo Kuo in Japan.
This girl is amazing. Originally a hiphop dancer she went to NY in order to dance hiphop and she discovered salsa there. After asking for information there, she was told the origins were partly from Cuba or Puerto Rico so she decided to go there in order to study deeply and learn from the roots. When she got Cuba in the early 2000s, she did not speak spanish and felt in love with Abakua style that was danced mainly by men, so nobody wanted to teach her. So she decided to learn rythms and music and then through that, she introduced the dance world and got the opportunity to learn about the huge cuban culture and the afro cuban dances and rumba.
She stayed there 2 years and a half surviving the way she could but staying there to learn her passion.
She is now developping her style mixing salsa and afro cuban dances with urban dances in Japan and won a Salsa HipHop battle in Paris when she came to visit her family (she was looking for a party to meet people and entered that battle by chance).
She is so talented, full of knowledge and humble, it was wonderful to meet such a person in Japan.
If you have the opportunity to visit that wonderful country of Japan, contact her and take her classes, you will learn a lot and meet a special person.
She is definetly Dancefloor Family !

We did a fun social experiment / prank where me and two of my white American friends who also speak fluent Mandarin Chinese and some Cantonese (and Spanish!) pretended not to be able to speak English with people in NYC’s Brooklyn Chinatown — and then switched over to perfect Chinese! It was a really fun day and we made lots of awesome connections with people, had lots of great Chinese food, and of course got plenty of funny reactions. Hopefully this can inspire some of you to try and learn other languages!
Make sure to subscribe and come back for Part 2 in this language learning / prank series next time!

The other day we went out to get a haircut in NYC’s Chinatown at one of its amazing barber shops. We totally shocked the entire barber shop with our Mandarin and Cantonese! A very funny prank and social experiment but also just a great time in general. Wishing everybody luck in their journey to learn languages, whether that’s Chinese, Korean, Hindi, Spanish, or whatever!

My friend Becca who speaks great Mandarin, some Cantonese, Shanghainese, and GREAT Spanish went bargain hunting and haggling at the Chinese clothing markets in NYC's Flushing Chinatown. We got some crazy discounts!!! A veritable market spree! We walked up to various Chinese vendors, started speaking with them in English, and then switched over mid-conversation to Mandarin and Cantonese (and Fuzhounese, Shanghainese, and Spanish). Their reactions were hilarious! Hope you enjoy this day in our lives! And hopefully this is helpful to you guys in your language learning journeys!
