肌肉不會轉化成脂肪
平時成日聽人講無郁一排啲肌肉變返做脂肪,郁返啲脂肪又變返晒做肌肉,咁肌肉係咪真係會變成脂肪呢?係咪操大個胸肌等佢冧返就會變大波妹呢?咁就緊係無咁著數啦!其實肌肉同脂肪係兩樣截然不同既野嚟。
首先介紹下身體既組成部分,主要分為Body Fat同Non-fat mass(骨,肌肉,水分,器官等)。最為人注目既就係肌肉同脂肪,例如點樣增肌減脂。但大家都應該要有一個重要概念,就係脂肪唔會變肌肉,肌肉唔會變脂肪,佢地係完全唔同既細胞嚟!
Muscle Cells亦稱為肌纖,係組成肌肉既主要細胞,基本上肌纖數目由出生個刻就決定左,唔會因為鍛鍊而愈嚟愈多肌纖,而鍛鍊只會令肌纖變粗、體積變大(hypertrophy)。所以係肌纖數目不變既情況下,操野會令肌纖變粗就大隻左,唔郁就令肌纖縮水就細隻左。
Fat cells就係組成脂肪既細胞,而fat cells既數目係會隨著不同年齡而改變,一般嚟講童年同青少年時期fat cells既數目都會增加或者減少,到around 18歲後fat cells就維持係青少年期個數目,唔會再點變。舉個例,你細個係肥妹肥仔,即係fat cells數量較多,成年後你fat cells都係會keep住有咁多,就容易肥或者復胖;而成年前一直都係瘦底,fat cells數量唔多,大個就無咁容易肥。仲有個狀況係成年後暴肥,fat cells數量都會跟住一齊升,而fat cells數量無咩特別情況都唔會減返落去。
返返正題,Muscle cells同Fat cells係兩樣完全唔同既細胞,兩個都有特定數目,都會隨著生活習慣等因素變大縮小。當操野操得密,肌纖就會變粗,Fat cells就會縮細,平日身體既能量消耗都會變大就會易啲瘦。相反,平時無點郁又食好多,肌纖就縮,Fat cells就變大,就都肥啲啦~

My current body composition. Let's talk about this. Your fitness progress isn't just about the number on the scale. The scale doesn't always give you the full picture. You need to know where is the weight coming from? Is it MUSCLE or FAT?

For instance you might be getting smaller and leaner, your clothes fit better, however your weight might stay the same or even increase! Don't get panic! That's because you've lost fat but increased in muscle mass. 💪🏼

Muscle is 18% more dense than fat. So one pound of muscle takes up less space in the body compared to one pound of fat. Hence if a person has more muscle mass and less fat but weighs more, he/she would still look leaner.

I used to weight between 48-49kgs but had higher body fat percentage, >22%. Now I'm 51kgs and is at 19% body fat. I'm at the stage where I enjoy my fitness routine and the number doesn't bother me as much. In fact, I rarely weigh myself anymore.

For those of you who are curious, you can get this reading using a body composition analyzer. This machine is usually available in the gym. Just ask a personal trainer to assist you with it. 😊
