We’re extremely happy to announce the opening of the "Taiwan Representative Office in the Republic of Somaliland!" Representative Lou Chen-hwa and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Yasin Hagi Mohamoud oversaw the opening ceremony, which was attended by diplomatic staff from various countries. President 蔡英文 Tsai Ing-wen also recorded a video message to express her good wishes for the ceremony (https://reurl.cc/7oXDq9).

Our office in the country will work to strengthen relations with African nations, particularly in #EastAfrica. The establishment of representative offices was part of a protocol signed in February of this year. The two countries will launch cooperative initiatives on fisheries, agriculture, energy, mining, public health, education and ICT.

Minister Yasin Hagi Mohamoud stated that given the growing geopolitical importance of the #HornOfAfrica, the #RedSea and the #AdenGulf, now is a great time to strengthen trade relations between our two countries. #StrongerTogether 💪🏻

MOFA Minister Joseph Wu and President of the Czech Senate Miloš Vystrčil held a joint press conference earlier today, alongside Legislative Yuan President You Si-kun and the Chair of the Czech-Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce Pavel Diviš, to reveal the progress made during the visit of the delegation to #Taiwan.

Minister Wu emphasized the historic significance of the visit and stated that it has provided a mechanism for cooperation between #LikeMindedPartners and will strengthen cooperation in terms of democratic values, supply chains, trade and artistic exchange.

Senate President Vystrčil pointed to three areas in which progress had been made through the visit, the first being in the development of substantive bilateral relations, including trade, investment, research and education, medicine and public health, which he said he would bring up with the responsible senate committees on his return home; the second was that the visit highlighted the importance of the values of #freedom and #democracy; the third was that it will promote further cooperation under the framework of a shared value for democracy. He also invited Legislative Yuan President You to visit the Czech Republic to continue parliamentary exchanges.

Former vice president Chen Chien-jen was recently invited by the chair of the #UK’s parliament’s health and social care committee to take part in a committee hearing to share the #TaiwanModel of #PandemicPrevention and our experience with #TrackAndTrace. MOFA minister Joseph Wu, the director general of Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control, JIH-HAW CHOU and his deputy Jen-Hsiang Chuang audited the hearing.
Taiwan’s approach to the pandemic met with praise from the MPs on the committee, including James Davies MP, Paul Bristow MP, Amy Callaghan MP and Rosie Cooper MP, who also asked Chen questions on a range of issues, including what measures other countries can learn from Taiwan in their approach, the main reasons for our success, how we managed to persuade the public to agree to measures, the importance of pandemic prevention education and the impact of our exclusion from the WHO on our pandemic prevention work.
