I must confess that I don’t have much of a sweet tooth but whenever I am under pressure, I always turn to confectionary because stressed spelt backwards is desserts… Hahaha… Anyways, for me, a memorable dessert is not just tasty but must also stimulate my senses in other ways and these 3 treats at Isola Bar + Grill (All HKD 98) were all wonderful in their own special way.
The Caramel Semifreddo Cake with Chocolate and Oatmeal Crumble was delightful in the way it plays with mouthfeel. The cake has a silky soft mousse like quality which, when paired with the crunchy oatmeal crumble and light meringue disks gave it a very interesting quality.
The Chocolate Ball with Orange Jam and Hot Chocolate Fondue had the enchanting allure of melting in front of your eyes as the hot syrup revealed the jam ball hidden within. The velvety dark chocolate superbly complemented the sweet jam for a most flavoursome experience.
Finally, my favourite dessert of the night was the Pistachio Mousse with Rhubarb Jelly. The green pistachio crispy perfectly held the jelly together and while the flavours were subtle, they really hit all the right notes. The pistachio ice cream was extremely creamy and was the most splendid end to a fabulous night.
