沙參玉竹零毛孔湯
中醫理論認為「肺主皮毛」,如果肺氣強,氣血運行暢順,皮膚都會較為細嫩有光澤,所以想擁有潤澤肌膚,毛孔細滑到不用執相加filter就可直出IG的話,就記得要關心你的肺部健康。沙參和玉竹是潤肺孖寶,沙參是草本植物珊瑚菜的根,性微寒,有養陰清肺、益胃生津的功效;而玉竹是草本植物玉竹的根莖,有養陰潤燥、止津止渴的作用,《神農本草經》曾說玉竹「久服去面黑䵟,好顏色,潤澤。」尤其適合陰虛體質或長期熬夜人士,出現口乾、皮膚乾燥等症狀時服用。惟注意容易腸胃不適及氣滯、痰濕體質人士不宜服用。
食材小貼士:
粟米性平,具益肺寧心、健脾開胃、健腦等作用。尤其適合脾胃氣虛、氣血不足、營養不良者食用。
沙參玉竹粟米米湯
功效:滋陰潤燥,美白肌膚,紓緩皮膚乾燥、嘴唇乾及便秘等症狀。
材料:沙參10克、玉竹10克、粟米2根、熟木瓜1個、無花果3枚、朝米水粉1包
做法:
1. 所有材料洗淨,粟米去衣去鬚切段,木瓜去皮去籽切塊備用。
2. 鍋中加入2000毫升水,放入全部材料,武火煮至水滾,調文火煮1小時,最後下鹽調味即可。

Glehnia root and Polygonatum odoratum ‘zero-pores’ soup
According to the Chinese Medicine theories, the lungs regulate the skin and hair. If the qi in the lungs is steady, the qi and the blood will circulate well, hence, our skin will also look more tender and have a nicer complexion. With a healthy looking skin with minimal pores, you can simply update your photos on IG without using any filters, but first, you must take good care of your lungs.
Glehnia root (‘Sha Shen’) and Polygonatum odoratum (‘yu zhu’) are a pair of ingredients that are good for the lungs. Glehnia root is the root of a type of herbaceous plant called Glehnia littoralis. It is slightly cool in nature, can nourish yin, clear the lungs, strengthen the stomach, and induce salivation.
Polygonatum odoratum, on the other hand, is the stem of the herbaceous plant itself. It can nourish yin, inhibit salivation, quench one’s thirst, and has moistening properties. According to The Classic of Herbal Medicine (‘Shennong Ben Cao Jing’), eating Polygonatum odoratum regularly can remove spots on the face and improve the complexion of the skin.
Polygonatum odoratum is suitable for individuals with a yin-deficient body constitution or people who sleep late frequently, especially when symptoms such as dry mouth and dry skin are apparent. Those who experience discomfort in the intestines and the stomach, stagnation of the qi, and those with phlegm-dampness body constitution should avoid taking this.
Tip on the ingredients:
Corn is mild in nature. It is beneficial to the lungs, calms the mind, strengthens the spleen to stimulate appetite, and is good for the brain. It is especially suitable for people with spleen and stomach qi deficiency, insufficient qi and blood, and malnutrition.
Glehnia Root and Polygonatum odoratum Rice soup with Corn
Effects: Nourishes the yin, moistens the dryness and whitens the skin. Relieves dry skin, dry lips and constipation.
Ingredients: 10g Glehnia Root, 10g Polygonatum odoratum, 2 corn, 1 ripe papaya, 3 fig, 1 pack dawn rice water powder
1. Rinse all ingredients thoroughly. Remove husks and silk from corn and cut into pieces. Peel and deseed papaya and cut into pieces.
2. Combine all ingredients with 2000ml of water in a pot and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for 1 hour. Add salt to taste.

腳氣尷尬時刻
腳氣一般指腳臭,又稱為香港腳,屬於中醫「足癬」的範疇,即真菌感染性皮膚病,由足部多汗潮濕或鞋襪不通氣引致,春夏天問題尤其嚴重,因為天氣潮濕,積濕會引致腳臭,真菌亦容易滋生。濕熱體質人士特別容易有腳臭問題,因為體內聚濕,鬱而化熱,這種體質的人容易出汗,汗液比較黃而且多帶有臭味。腳臭令人尷尬,日常生活不易發覺,但遇上要脫鞋的場合,就成為腳臭人士的尷尬時刻:
1. 湊阿仔去Playgroup — 大小朋友請脫鞋進場
2. 去朋友家吃飯 — 入屋前除鞋是禮貌吧
3. 去吃日本料理只剩榻榻米房 — 不如轉食中菜好嗎?
4. 坐長途機準備睡覺 — 上機後立即問空姐多取兩對襪
不想再受腳臭困擾,快著手改善濕熱體質,飲用有清熱袪濕的茶療或湯水;飲食清淡,多吃祛濕食物如薏米、赤小豆、綠豆、苦瓜等;著鞋記得要著襪,回家後洗腳及保持雙腳乾爽。
除臭茶療
功效:清熱袪濕,紓緩腳臭、口氣、臭狐等症狀。
材料:黃柏6克、蒼朮9克、生薏米12克
做法:材料洗淨,用600毫升水,武火煮滾後轉文火煮20分鐘。
此茶療煮一次後可倒入保溫瓶反覆沖泡至味淡。建議連續飲用4-5天。
注意:脾胃虛寒、容易胃痛腹瀉不宜多飲。

Embarrassing feet odor
Athlete’s foot generally refers to foot odor, also known as the ‘Hong Kong foot’, is a kind of fungal infection of the skin of the foot, according to Chinese medicine. Commonly caused by sweaty feet and bad air circulation in the socks and shoes, athlete’s foot will become more serious during summer, as the weather is damp, and will encourage fungal growth.
Individuals with damp-heat body condition are especially prone to the athlete’s foot because the dampness accumulated will encourage the transmission of heat in body. This causes them to sweat more easily, and the sweat will leave yellow stains on clothes, and an unpleasant smell would linger.
Having an athlete’s foot can be embarrassing; it is something we might not discover on ordinary days, but under the circumstances where shoes need to be removed, the person will find themselves in awkward situations:
1. Bringing children to playgroup - we adults as ‘the big child’ will need to remove our shoes
2. Dining at a friend’s place – it is the basic courtesy to take off our shoes before entering someone’s house
3. Dining at a Japanese restaurant when only one tatami room is available – shall we go for Chinese cuisine instead?
4. Getting ready to sleep when travelling long distance – request two more pairs of socks from the air-stewardess right after boarding
In order to put an end to the foot odor problem, let’s improve the damp-heat body condition. Drink herbal tea or soup that can clear heat and eliminate dampness; avoid eating heavily seasoned food, and consume more food that can get rid of dampness in the body such as barley, adzuki beans, green beans, and bitter gourd. Remember to put on socks before wearing shoes; wash your feet when you reach home, and keep your feet dry always.
Tea to relieve odor
Effects: Clears heat and dispels dampness. Relieve food odor, bad breath and smelly armpit
Ingredients: 6g Amur Corktree Bark, 9g Atractylodes lancea, 12g coix seed
Preparation: Rinse all the ingredients. Combine all ingredients with 600 ml of water and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for 20 minutes. The tea can be put into thermos and re-browed until flavour weakens. For best results, drink consecutively for 4-5 days.
Note: Those with asthenic spleen and stomach, or those are prone to stomache and diarrhea should eat less

四年一度世界盃,大家「攞正牌」熬夜看足球, 睡眠時間少質素也欠佳,加上「睇波三寶」薯片、杯麵及啤酒助興,第二朝起身趕返工如行屍走肉般,頭痛、眼乾、黑眼圈、出暗瘡、口乾、口氣、生痱滋、消化不良、小便偏黃、大便偏乾(粒粒屎),甚至便秘症狀總有幾款,精神狀態仿如靈魂出竅。
人的生活應該「日出而作,日入而息」,日頭陽氣奮起,日落休息就是不讓陽氣繼續奮進,熬夜就令陽未能轉入陰,所以中醫認為熬夜傷陰,收藏的能力減弱了,陰虛則熱,令人容易出現虛火,甚至心浮氣燥,有以上症狀代表你屬於陰虛體質,不要一味以為狂飲涼茶就能清熱,涼茶治實火,恐防會進一步傷陰,你需要的是清熱同時滋陰以作平衡。

既然熬夜睇波無可避免,在日常飲食上就要有所配合:
- 飲食宜清淡,多喝湯水、粥品
- 避免進食辛辣、煎炸油膩食物
- 少喝咖啡、奶茶
- 將「睇波三寶」換成新鮮生果、生果脆片、果仁、乳酪、綠茶、花茶
- 多吃清熱滋陰食材如花旗參、菊花、蜂蜜、雪梨等
推介糖水:
雪耳百合木瓜糖水
功效:清熱滋陰、滋潤皮膚、清除因熬夜引起的虛火
材料:雪耳1塊、百合15克、新鮮蓮子連芯60克(乾品20克)、中型木瓜1個、冰糖適量
做法:
1. 雪耳泡水至發大,剪去蒂並撕成小塊備用;百合及蓮子洗淨;木瓜去皮去籽切大塊備用。
2. 雪耳、百合、蓮子及木瓜放入鍋中,加水至蓋過所有材料,武火煮至水滾,改文火加蓋煮30-40分鐘,加入適量冰糖調味煮至溶化即可。
You need to clear heat and nourish yin if you are watching world cup late at night
World cup happens every four years so everyone has the good reason to stay up to watch the games. You sleep less and coupled with snacks like chips, instant noodles and beer during the game. You are practically a walking zombie the next morning with a headache, dry eyes, dark eye circles, pimples, dry mouth, bad breath, canker sores, indigestion, yellowish urine, dry stool, or even constipation. Your overall energy is zapped.
People naturally should be active during the day and rest at night as your yang qi is activated in the day time. Resting at night is to stop your yang qi from staying activated, so staying up at night leads to yang not converting to yin. Chinese medicine believes late nights can hurt yin and yin deficiency leads to heat in body. The symptoms above means yin deficient body constitution so be careful not to drink a lot of cool herbal tea to clear heat as you may further hurt your yin. You need to clear heat as well as nourish yin to balance the two.
If you can't avoid staying up to watch the games, then adjust your dietary habits accordingly:
- have lighter meald with more soup and congee
- avoid spicy, fried and oily foods
- drink less coffee and milk tea
- have fruits, fruit chips, nuts, yogurt, green tea or floral tea during games
- have more ingredients that clear heat and nourish yin such as American ginseng, chrysanthemum, honey, pear, etc
Recommended dessert soup:
Papaya soup with snow fungus and lily bulbs
Effects: clears heat and nourishes yin, moisturizes skin, clears heat related to frequent late nights
Ingredients: 1 snow fungus, 15g lily bulbs, 60g fresh lotus seeds with core (20g if dried), 1 midsize papaya, rock sugar to taste
Preparation:
1. Soak snow fungus in water until it expands. Cut off the stem and rip into small pieces. Rinse lily bulbs and lotus seeds. Peel papaya, remove seeds and cut into large pieces.
2. Place snow fungus, lily bulbs, lotus seeds into pot and add enough water to submerge all ingredients. Cook on high heat until boiling and turn to low heat and simmer for 30-40 minutes. Add in rock sugar and cook until it has melted.

Bah Kut Teh is a Chinese Pork Rib soup and is one of the most popular soups in Singapore. There are two types of Bak Kut Teh in Singapore; Teochew style or Klang style. Klang is a royal town and the former capital of Selangor Malaysia. Unlike Teochew style, Klang Bak Kut Teh is herbal based and is yummy in its own rights. Teochew style on the other hand features a clear soup base with peppery taste.
I personally love both styles of Bak Kut Teh because I'm a fan of soup, especially when I'm trying to get by a hangover :p.
