Many Americans play ping pong in their basements and garages, but that game is nothing like the lightning fast sport of table tennis that we saw yesterday. The speed of the game and the spin on the ball are difficult for average players to understand. We watched Angela Guan, one of the best women players in America, defeat her opponent from the Philippines to move beyond the qualifying rounds to the main draw of the Universiade singles tournament. Angela's family and mine are connected through several decades of friendship. She has an infectious personality and is a great ambassador for the game. After the Universiade, Angela will start her freshman year at the University of California, Berkeley. Good luck to her and the rest of the USA table tennis team!....km
【週日專欄｜#理想的城市】樂趣理論
上週聽了馮光遠在TEDxTaipei的演講，他提到許多城市的建設和想法，其實可以更有趣、更有創意。
例如每年年底101的煙火大秀，為什麼不能把那上千萬的預算平均分配到每一天，譬如下午7點整點時固定放五秒鐘的煙火，提醒大家，該吃飯了、該下班了、該去約會了......讓它成為台北的一個特色，一個眾人會期待的點。
他還提到葡萄牙里斯本會跳舞的紅綠燈設計，讓人們減少冒險闖紅燈的次數，而願意停下來觀賞。讓城市更安全，也讓行人心情更愉悅。
另外瑞典的Volkswagen贊助了一個活動，將某個地鐵站的樓梯改裝成類似鋼琴琴鍵的設計，當人們踩踏上去時確實會發出聲音，不同人、不同腳步創造出不同的「音樂」。可以想見的，這也大幅增加了人們放棄手扶梯而改走樓梯的意願，達到了節能減碳的示範效果。他們稱之為「樂趣理論」。
以下影片是一個等紅燈時的互動設計，來往行人可趁這空檔玩一盤乒乓球的小遊戲，也是把原本令人不耐的垃圾時間轉化為有趣行動的好範例。
創意能不能實踐當然有許多技術性問題，但至少，更開放地思考，才能創造新的機會。至少對我個人來說，是很具啟發的。
