WOW! I can't believe how BIG and pregnant I was just a couple weeks ago! 天啊， 時間過的好快喔！沒有辦法想像我上上個禮拜肚子還這麼大！今天要告訴你們： 有好消息！！！！ （NO! I'm not pregnant again... are you CRAAAZY?!?! 不是又懷孕了啦。 你瘋了嗎？！）如果你跟我一樣常常出國去美國旅遊的話， 現在台灣人可以申請全球入境Global Entry！Good news for all Taiwanese citizens - you can now apply for Global Entry into the USA. I have it and #GlobalEntry is the BEST THING EVER. You get to #skipthelines and get out of the airport, and most imporantly, get to In and Out before anybody else.

Also, American citizens are now eligible for Taiwan's e-Gate Program and it will also save you tons of time when you come into Taiwan. Egan is going to be applying for his passport and Global Entry soon. His passport photos are either going to look like an wrinkled old man, or a mug shot... Can't wait to go through immigration with him! hahahah! #whatareyouwaitingfor ?

Big news, everyone! I’m so happy to announce that not only will November 1 be the 5th anniversary of the Visa Waiver Program in Taiwan, it will also be the official eligibility date for Taiwan passport holders to start applying for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s flagship Trusted Traveler program – Global Entry! This is also welcome news for frequent U.S. citizen travelers to Taiwan. On that same day, the United States will be honored to be the first country to benefit from membership in Taiwan’s e-Gate Program. I had great fun recording this video with the super talented Janet Hsieh of the popular travel show, Fun Taiwan. She’s someone who travels a lot and enjoys the benefits from her Global Entry membership (and she will soon be traveling with her newborn baby boy!). I’m a very satisfied Global Entry member, too. Three years ago, we embarked on a journey to every corner of Taiwan to deliver a simple message: Taiwan has no better friend than the United States. We learned a lot about Taiwan, met countless fascinating people, and had a lot of fun along the way. We were elated that so many of you (more than 97,000, actually) kept us company on Facebook for the duration of the ride, and I hope that you discovered a few things about America and had a few laughs, to boot. I’m often asked how we kept our page fresh and interesting. Well, it takes a village, as they say. Special thanks go to former AIT spokesman Sonia Urbom for overall content management and coordinating guest appearances by AIT colleagues. Thanks to Jewel, Henry, Oligo, Kathy, and Jerry for all of the energy you invested in making our posts great-looking and timely. Another frequent question I get is about the beautiful Mandarin language in our posts. AIT’s extraordinary interpreter Janice Tsai was responsible for elevating my clunky English to sublime Chinese. Many people couldn’t believe that our posts did not originate in Chinese – that’s how superb the translations were. As for the fine photographs of our travels around the island and beautifully composed shots of fun events, that was none other than my wife, Kathy Chen, behind the lens. And finally, the answer to the most frequent question of all is: yes, it was yours truly authoring each post that bore my initials “km.” We really appreciated all of your comments. 我手裡抱的這奇特玩意兒叫做「時空膠囊」。時空膠囊是把史料或代表當代文化的物品裝箱，然後埋藏保存，等到未來某個時候再開啟。把東西裝箱埋在地裡，為後世保存歷史的時空膠囊，其實是美國在建築物落成時常有的一項傳統。AIT新館在6月12日舉辦落成典禮時，我將和幾位特別來賓把代表2018年美台關係或象徵我們當今世界的紀念品放到時空膠囊裡。之後我們會把這時空膠囊埋起來，等幾十年後再重新出土，讓未來的人們看看膠囊裡代表我們時代精神的物品。大家對於該放哪些東西，有沒有什麼好建議呢？你的建議可能會被採用喔！ --- 梅健華 #FromAITDirector #AIT新館

The mysterious object I’m holding is called a time capsule. A time capsule is a container holding historical records or objects representative of current culture that is buried for preservation until it is opened or discovered at some future time. Preserving history for future generations by burying a container of items in the earth - a time capsule - is a commonly practiced tradition in the United States for the dedication ceremony of new buildings. At the June 12 dedication ceremony of AIT’s new office complex, a few special guests and I will each place into the time capsule a special memento that represents the U.S.-Taiwan relationship in 2018 or symbolizes an important feature of our world today. This time capsule will later be buried at AIT’s new office complex and, decades later, will be unearthed for future generations to discover the items inside that capture the spirit of our times.
