#Taiwan’s important role in the #IndoPacfic was mentioned in the Joint Statement on #Australia-#US Ministerial Consultations (#AUSMIN) 2020. In the statement US secretary of state Mike Pompeo, US secretary of defense Mark Esper, Australia’s minister for foreign affairs Marise Payne and minister for defense Linda Reynolds reaffirmed their intent to maintain strong collaboration with Taiwan and support Taiwan's meaningful participation in international organizations.
They also expressed their deep concern for the recent passing of the national security law in #HongKong and for the repression of #Uyghurs and members of other minority groups in #Xinjiang.
MOFA is grateful to the US and Australia for their open show of support for Taiwan and the joint statement is testament to the success of our #NewSouthboundPolicy, as well as Taiwan’s reputation as a reliable partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
