May is AIT@40 Immigration & Exchange Month! May is also Asian-American Heritage Month. Today, the United States mourns the loss of one of our most celebrated architects, I.M. Pei, who died at the age of 102. Pei was born in China and moved to the United States in the 1930s, where he earned an architecture degree from Harvard University. He then went on to design some of the United States’ and the world’s most iconic buildings, including the East Building of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, and the glass pyramid at the entrance to the Louvre in Paris, as well as the Luce chapel at Tunghai University in Taichung.
