Imagine releasing rocks of anger and resentment weighing you down.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Isn't that freeing?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we think of forgiving someone who's hurt us, we make it seem like we're letting them off the hook; like we're giving them a pass for what they did; like we have to now suddenly be chummy with them; like we're accepting that what they did was okay.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It wasn't. And forgiveness isn't about them.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we hold onto anger, resentment, and vengeance, it's like carrying rocks around. We hurt double time: from what the person (or people) has done, and from the sheer weight of the rocks we're holding onto.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Forgiveness is looking at yourself with kindness and care. It's choosing the path of lightness for yourself. It's deciding that you love *yourself* enough to put the burden of those rocks down, and take steps forward.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know for sure that forgiving the man who sexually abused me as a child gives me back my power to love — myself and others. Forgiving him means I'm longer a hostage to the shame and anger for what he did to me.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Holding onto anger, resentment, and vengeance hurts us the most. And choosing to forgive frees us the most.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you're currently holding onto rocks that are weighing you down, I invite you to freedom, to lightness, and to kindness towards one who truly deserves it: You.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
