ตอนอยู่ก็บ่นเรื่องอึฉี่ไม่เป็นที่เป็นทาง กระโดกกระเดกเพราะมี 3 ขา ขี้ตกใจ โง่ ขี้กลัว เครียดง่าย เป็นหมาที่เอาตัวรอดไม่เป็น ออกจะรำคาญเสียด้วยซ้ำที่มันจะตระหนกตกใจกับอะไรง่ายขนาดนี้

แต่คืนวันนั้น เรากำลังเอาหมาทั้ง 8 ตัวเก็บเข้าบ้าน การ์เด้นหมา 3 ขา พิการแต่กำเนิดที่เราช่วยชีวิตมาตั้งแต่ทารกและเลี้ยงมาจนถึงขวบกว่าๆ ก็พินิจพิเคราะห์ด้วยมันสมองที่ไร้ประสบการณ์ของตัวเอง ถอดสายจูงวิ่งออกไปข้างนอกตัวเดียว

เราไม่ค่อยตกใจเท่าไหร่ เพราะเหตุการณ์แบบนี้เกิดขึ้นบ่อย และเราชอบที่จะให้การ์เด้นท์ผ่อนคลาย ด้วยการคลายสายจูงแล้วให้วิ่งเล่นหน้าบ้าน เพราะการอยู่ในสายจูงของการ์เด้นนานๆคือความเครียด เขาก็จะกลับเข้าบ้านตามปกติ

เราจึงไล่เก็บหมาทุกตัวให้หมด แล้วจึงวิ่งออกไปตามการ์เด้น ในเวลาไม่ถึง 10 นาที แล้วเราก็พบแต่ความว่างเปล่าของถนนตอนตี 1 ที่ไม่มีคน จะมีแต่ก็เพียงรถแท็กซี่ที่นานๆจะวิ่งในหมู่บ้าน

เราเริ่มหาตั้งแต่ตี 1 จวนจะถึงเช้า เรียกด้วยเสียงทุกแบบ พยายามฟังเสียงสะบัดหูที่การ์เด้นชอบทำแต่กลับไม่มีเสียงตอบรับใดๆ ทุกตรอกซอกซอยมีเพียงความมืด ไร้เงาของหมากระโดกกระเดกตัวเดิม

เวลาผ่านมาวันที่ 3 ป้ายไวนีลขนาดใหญ่ที่ติดไว้ตามหาการ์เด้นก็ไม่มีใครโทรมาแม้แต่คนเดียว เสียงประกาศตามสายก็ไม่มีการตอบรับใดๆ
