: Q: 這題的句型一直看不懂，好像有倒裝卻又不知道怎麼倒回來。
: 對”only by”和” anything more than”的意思也一直轉不過來 ><
: 除了這題的問題外，不知道類似的句型要怎麼補強呢？
在此我談 練習時的做法 不是解題時的考量 所以會很長
1. 識別這是哪一種文法 這樣你才能去查書
你已經大致感覺這可能是倒裝 但是還不確定
倒裝 其實非常容易判別
在國中或高中 我們應該聽過 所謂的五大句型 這是在說句子的正常語序
(regular order of words)
但是如果句子的順序不是正常語序 便是倒裝
這句話倒裝在哪裡呢?
Only by 是個副詞片語 (一組不含主詞和動詞的字當做副詞用時)
繼續讀下去卻發現 could 助動詞 放在 investors 主詞之前
故確定是倒裝
2. 了解文法的功能
為何句子好好的要倒裝呢? 當然是要引起你的注意
基本的功能是 提醒你 "語氣要有所轉變"
在此的功能是 "用來強調倒裝的部分" (但是加強語氣並非倒裝的唯一功能)
所以這個部分在翻譯上一定要注意 是最重要的部分
如果不能理解倒裝部分的訊息 句子往往會讀錯重點
Only 片語的倒裝
符合以下特徵句型
only + 副詞 / 副詞片語 / 副詞子句 + 助動詞 / be-動詞 + 主詞
=> 文法書多有倒裝句型的章節 有些把only獨立一類
也有一些是把only 放在否定副詞的倒裝 這個章節
3. 了解句型之間的轉換
要能順暢地使用文法 最好連句子一起背
因此我選擇文法書的時候 會注意例句是否好用
下面這個句子出現在我手邊的3本文法書上 顯然是很好的例句
Only by working hard can we succeed in doing everything.
= We can only succeed in doing everything by working hard.
= We can succeed in doing everything only by working hard.
（唯有努力工作我們才能事事成功。）
好了 現在你知道 only by ignoring 是條件 要往後搬
再把倒裝的助動詞放回原位 Investors could conclude that
應該可以寫成
Investors could conclude that
a fresh infusion of cash would provide anything more than
a ________ solution to the company's financial woes
only by ignoring decades of mismanagement ad inefficiency.
如果還是看不懂
可以利用句型轉換
Only by + Ving (副詞片語 表條件與原因)
= Only when + 子句
Investors could conclude that a fresh infusion of cash would
provide anything more than
a ________ solution to the company's financial woes,
only when they (=investors) ignore decades of mismanagement ad inefficiency.
另一個是比較細微的部分
這是個強調用法
provide anything more than = provide not only (but also)
用中文說就是 不只是提供 ... 還...
所以整句話應該是
只有在忽略過去管理與效率問題的情況下
投資這才會認為投入新的資本可以
做更多的事 而不只是個暫緩公司經濟危機的方案

這是一種附加的用法
但是有個特殊的目的 就是 "讓步"
al‧be‧it formal
used to add information that reduces the force or importance of
what you have just said [= although]:
He accepted the job, albeit with some hesitation.
這個條件 是要告訴人家 隨然我之前說了XX
但是不要把他想成 YY
回到文字本身
swift和tentative都是說時間短暫 ?
不對 tentative 並非用來說時間短暫 請看字典
當你要表達fast 與時間短暫時 用的單字依照事件的類型而不同
1. moving very quickly:
at high speed, like lightning, at top speed, flat out
2. doing something quickly:
quick, rapid, swift, prompt, speedy
3. happening quickly:
rapid, speedy, meteoric, at an alarming rate, in no time

但是 我們沒有看到 tentative
對於理工科的學生在讀論文的時候會注意這個字
同時避免自己用寫出這個字
因為這代表
ten‧ta‧tive
1. not definite or certain, and may be changed later
[= provisional; ≠ definite]:
2. done without confidence [= hesitant]:
沒錯 這個字語快的連結是 匆忙.倉促 意思 (hesitant)
在時間上的概念卻是 非永久的 可能會改變的 有不確定性的
: 書上解釋是, 這題是特殊轉折關係: 兩個形容詞用轉折關係詞連接，共同修飾一個名詞。
: ”an unexpectedly ________ , albeit still tentative, agreement”，
: 空格與tentative構成”轉折但不能互為反義”的特殊關係，大多為”褒貶轉折”。
: (A)swift和tentative都是說時間短暫，但有褒貶轉折。
: Q: swift和tentative褒貶的區別是?
並非只是 褒貶的區別
不過者組關係是值得背下來的
Although there have been ________ signs in exports of

空格應該要填 tentative 或 swift ?
應該很清楚吧
應該是tentative (而不是因為看到although 後面又有worsened 就
想說填個正面的 swift)

: but because she so ________ prepared her cases that she failed to bring the
: expected number to trial.
: (A) well versed…knowledgeably
: (B) well trained…enthusiastically
: (C) congenial…rapidly

not becuse , but because
兩個都是副詞子句
不是因為 而是因為
再仔細一看
not because she was not 不是因為她不 V
雙重否定 也就是說
就是因為她 V 所以才...
結果下一句就露餡了 V 就是prepare => 選hardworking
but because she so ________ prepared
不是因為她不(?)準備
so ... that...
而是因為她太 ....的準備 所以導致
因為太仔細準備 個案 (花太多時間)
所以最後帶上法庭的件數不足 (不如預期的數量)
: Q: 空格二我覺得要填”粗心大意”，或是”匆忙準備”之類的詞，
: (C)的第二個詞感覺最接近以上的意思，但是(C)的第一個字似乎又和句子沒有關係。
: 答案是(D)，但放進去我覺得空格二怪怪的，翻成中文是:
: ”因為她的詳細準備以至於沒有帶大家預期的數字上法庭”，感覺句意不通。
: ”the expected number”在書上的翻譯是帶到法庭審的件數，
: 而不是上法庭需要的一個數據(我的理解是這一個)，
: 只是如果是前者，”number”應該要是複數吧？
