สวัสดีครับเพื่อนๆ..วันนี้ผมกับทีมงาน
"มิตรรัก บรรลือฤทธิ์" ได้มาเยี่ยมครอบ
ครัวของคุณป้า สังเวียน การภักดี อายุ70
ปี ที่ป่วยเป็นโรคหัวใจโตหมอห้ามทำงาน
หนัก แต่ทุกวันนี้คุณป้ายังคงทำงานหนัก
เพื่อหาเลี้ยงลูกชายที่ป่วยเป็นเบาหวาน
เป็นโรคไตและตับ เบาหวานนั้นทำให้ตา
ทั้ง2ข้างบอดสนิท ตอนเป็นแรกๆก็ไปหา
หมอพอนานวันเข้าเงินที่สะสมก็หมด ทำ
ให้ไม่ได้ไปหาหมออย่างต่อเนื่อง ทุกวัน
นี้ลูกชายก็ช่วยเหลือตัวเองไม่ได้ ต้องพา
เข้าห้องน้ำ เคยปล่อยให้เข้าเองตอนแม่
ไม่ว่าง แต่พอออกจากห้องน้ำก็กลับมาที่
เก่าไม่ถูกเดินหลงหายไปเกือบครึ่งวัน ไปนั่งอยู่ในป่า เพราะกลับบ้านไม่ถูก ทุก
วันนี้แม่ต้องตื่นแต่ตี2เพื่อมาหุงข้าว ทำ
กับข้าวและทำงานบ้านพอเสร็จแม่ก็ต้อง
มาฉีดยาให้ลูก เพราะตี5รถจะมารับไป
ตัดอ้อย คุณป้าก็ทำไม่ค่อยไหวแล้ว แต่
ก็ต้องทำ เพราะไม่มีรายได้อะไรนอกจาก
เงินผู้สูงอายุ คุณป้าตัดได้วันหนึ่งก็150-
200บาท คนอื่นๆเขาได้กัน300-350บาท
แต่ก็ต้องทำเพราะตัวเองไม่ได้เรียนหนัง
สือมาทำอะไรก็ไม่ได้นอกจากขายแรง
งาน ทุกวันนี้ขอให้มีข้าวหุงมีอาหารสัก
อย่างเอาวันกินกัน2คนแม่ลูก เวลาลูก
ป่วยแม่ก็จะพาลูกนั่งซ้อนรถมอเตอร์ไซด์
ไปหาหมอ รพ ห่างจากบ้าน50กว่ากิโล
ต้องใช้เวลาขับ2ชั่วโมงกว่าจะถึง คุณป้า
ดูแลลูกชายมากว่า10ปีแล้ว เมื่อก่อนก็ดู
แลสามีที่ป่วยเป็นแบบเดียวกันกับลูกชาย
ตอนนั้นขายทุกสิ่งทุกอย่างจนหมดเพื่อ
เอาเงินมารักษาสามี จนสามีเสียชีวิต แต่
ก็ไม่คิดว่าจะต้องมาเป็นกับลูกอีก ตอนนี้
บ้านก็ไม่มี ขายให้เขาหมดแล้ว เขาก็ใจดี
ยังให้เราอยู่บ้านได้อีก ทุกวันนี้ก็ห่วงแต่
ลูก ไม่มีแม่สักคนใครจะมาดูแลเขา ป้า
เองก็ป่วยไม่รู้ใครจะไปก่อนใคร..นี่คือคำ
พูดของคุณป้า วันนี้ระหว่างพูดคุย ลูกก็
นั่งร้องไห้ตลอดเพราะสงสารแม่ที่ตัวเขา
ต้องมาเป็นภาระให้แม่..วันนี้เหมือนเช่น
เคยผมได้ช่วยคุณป้าสังเวียน20,000บ.

So this month I’ve been spending some time learning Yoruba, just one of the over 500 languages spoken in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country. I was interested in Yoruba because as a strictly tonal language, Yoruba being pronounced Yorùbá, it’s an amazing challenge to learn to speak and it reminds me a lot of Mandarin Chinese. Then I decided to go and find some Nigerians to practice with and…we had a good time! People were really surprised when I started speaking Yoruba with them. Finally I tried Nigerian food for the first time and it was incredible. Next time, we’ll do this in Nigeria!
The other day I went into a bunch of Chinese restaurants as an ordinary but kinda clueless white guy and ordered food in fluent Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese). It was a really fun prank and social experiment to see Chinese people’s reactions — both the waiters and the other patrons in these NYC Chinatown restaurants were totally shocked! Thanks everyone for supporting me on my language learning journey — Fuzhounese videos coming up very soon!

The other day we white guys who speak perfect Chinese went out to NYC’s Chinatown to the nail salon. They were “gossiping” about us (in a loving way!), not realizing we spoke Mandarin, and then we totally shocked them by switching to Chinese! We ended up having a really deep and interesting conversation with them in Mandarin and the rare Chinese dialect of Fuzhounese.
So to find out what they are REALLY saying about you at Asian nail salons…just watch the video! It was a funny prank / social experiment but also a really meaningful experience. Plus of course it’s interesting if you’re interested in language learning!

The other day I went into a bunch of typical American Chinese takeout restaurants as an ordinary but kinda clueless white guy and ordered food in fluent Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese, and Fuzhounese). Most American Chinese takeout restaurants like this are run by people from China’s Fujian province, so it was fun for them to hear me speak their native but fairly rare language of Fuzhounese!
It was a really fun prank and social experiment to see Chinese people’s reactions — both the waiters and the other patrons in these NYC Chinatown restaurants were totally shocked! Thanks everyone for supporting me on my language learning journey!!!
