The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.
I turned round to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being.
She said, "Hi handsome. My name is Rose.
I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?"
I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze.
"Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked.
She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids..."
"No seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.
"I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.
After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake.
We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.
Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went.
She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.
At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet.
I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.
Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, "I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this
whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know."
As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, "We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing.
There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.
We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!
There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up.
If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight.
Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets.
The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with
regrets."
She concluded her speech by courageously singing "The Rose."
She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives.
At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.
One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.
Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

I'm grateful to Vanessa and the Bryant family for the opportunity to speak today.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
I'm grateful to be here to honor Gigi and celebrate the gifts that Kobe gave us all – what he accomplished as a basketball player, as a businessman, and a storyteller and as a father. In the game of basketball, in life, as a parent – Kobe left nothing in the tank. He left it all on the floor.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Maybe it surprised people that Kobe and I were very close friends. But we were very close friends. Kobe was my dear friend. He was like a little brother. Everyone always wanted to talk about the comparisons between he and I. I just wanted to talk about Kobe.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
He used to call me, text me, 11:30, 2:30, 3 o'clock in the morning, talking about post-up moves, footwork, and sometimes, the triangle. At first, it was an aggravation. But then it turned into a certain passion. This kid had passion like you would never know. It's an amazing thing about passion. If you love something, if you have a strong passion for something, you would go to the extreme to try to understand or try to get it.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
What Kobe Bryant was to me was the inspiration that someone truly cared about the way either I played the game or the way that he wanted to play the game. He wanted to be the best basketball player that he could be. And as I got to know him, I wanted to be the best big brother that I could be.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
To do that, you have to put up with the aggravation, the late-night calls, or the dumb questions. I took great pride as I got to know Kobe Bryant that he was just trying to be a better person – a better basketball player. We talked about business, we talked about family, we talked about everything. And he was just trying to be a better person.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Now, he's got me and I'll have to look at another crying meme for the next ...
★★★★★★★★★★★★
I told my wife I wasn't gonna do this cause I didn't want to see that for the next three or four years. That is what Kobe Bryant does to me. I'm pretty sure Vanessa and his friends all can say the same thing – he knows how to get to you in a way that affects you personally, even though he's being a pain in the ass. But you have a sense of love for him and the way that he can bring out the best in you. And he did that for me.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
We could talk about anything that related to basketball but we could talk about anything that related to life. And we, as we grew up in life, rarely have friends that we can have conversations like that. Well, it's even rarer when you can grow up against adversaries and have conversations like that.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
No matter where he saw me, it was a challenge. And I admired him because his passion, you rarely see someone who is looking and trying to improve each and every day, not just in sports, but as a parent, as a husband. I am inspired by what he's done, and what he's shared with Vanessa, and what he's shared with his kids.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Vanessa, Natalia, Bianka, Capri,
To Vanessa, Natalia, Bianka, Capri, my wife and I will keep you close in our hearts and our prayers. We will always be here for you. Always. I also want to offer our condolences and support to all the families affected by this enormous tragedy.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Kobe gave every last ounce of himself to whatever he was doing, After basketball, he showed a creative side to himself that I didn't think any of us knew he had. In retirement, he seemed so happy. He found new passions. And he continued to give back, as a coach, in his community. More importantly, he was an amazing dad, amazing husband, who dedicated himself to his family and who loved his daughters with all his heart. Kobe never left anything on the court. And I think that's what he would want for us to do.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
No one knows how much time we have. That's why we must live in the moment, we must enjoy the moment, we must reach and see and spend as much time as we can with our families and friends and the people that we absolutely love. To live in the moment means to enjoy each and every one that we come in contact with.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
When Kobe Bryant died, a piece of me died. And as I look in this arena and across the globe, a piece of you died, or else you wouldn't be here. Those are the memories that we have to live with and we learn from.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
I promise you from this day forward, I will live with the memories of knowing that I had a little brother and I tried to help in every way I could.
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Please, rest in peace little brother.

Lewis Capaldi《Someone You Loved》
| Violin cover by Lin Tzu An of《Someone You Loved》by Lewis Capaldi

Smell something sad just from the prelude?
(or you guess from my face when playing the violin? 😆)
Yay, this song is about people's state of mind of people when someone important is not here!
It's so wonderful if you can let yourself guard down and just fall into the arms of the important one.
In the relationship like this, ya'll get strength and will grow from it, but it does not necessarily mean the eternity of the relationship.
Sad of course, but with the time goes by, I seem to think that not every loss is the "loss", and there may be some value behind all these things.
This is a story of your own life. You are able to choose who to stay in your story, and of course the mentality of seeing the "loss" as some sort of "gain".
If you understand, instead of going for the so-called eternity, simply cherish and enjoy the moment with the important one.
There are such important people in our journey for some years, and those times are not wasted.
No encounter is accidental, so we pass by each other's world, and we cannot skip chapters.
We have to read every line and meet every character and won't enjoy all of it and some will make you cry for weeks and you will have moments when you don't want the pages to end. But you have to keep going. Stories keep the world revolving. Live yours =]
Hope everyone can find the peace and being healed from my violin.

When I first heard Sasha Sloan’s ‘Older’, I loved the melody, thought it was beautiful and soothing. After listening more closely to the lyrics, it really got to me 🥺 Now that I’ve been taking on more responsibility and care for parents and family, the song gave me comfort at times when I felt sad or vulnerable. Wanted to sing a bit, sooo.. here’s a simple version... of me singing it haha

Lyrics
I used to shut my door while my mother screamed in the kitchen
I'd turn the music up, get high and try not to listen
To every little fight, 'cause neither one was right
I swore I'd never be like them
But I was just a kid back then
The older I get the more that I see
My parents aren't heroes, they're just like me
And loving is hard, it don't always work
You just try your best not to get hurt
I used to be mad but now I know
Sometimes it's better to let someone go
It just hadn't hit me yet
The older I get
I used to wonder why, why they could never be happy
I used to close my eyes and pray for a whole 'nother family
Where everything was fine, one that felt like mine
I swore I'd never be like them
But I was just a kid back then
The older I get the more that I see
My parents aren't heroes, they're just like me
And loving is hard, it don't always work
You just try your best not to get hurt
I used to be mad but now I know
Sometimes it's better to let someone go
It just hadn't hit me yet
The older I get

The little yellow flower of the story floats from the year of birth
Swing in childhood, with the memory has been shaking to the present
Blowing the prelude, looking at the sky
I think of the petals and try to drop them.
The day you skip class, the day the flowers fall
How can I not see that room in the classroom?
Lost rainy day, I want to get wet again
Unexpectedly, I still have the courage to lose.
Want to ask again, will you wait or leave?
On a windy day, I tried to hold your hand.
But on the contrary, it's raining slowly.
How long will it be before I see you?
I can stay with you until sunny day.
Maybe I'll be better. Once upon a time.
Someone loves you for a long time, but on the contrary
The wind gradually blows the distance away.
It's not easy to love for another day.
But at the end of the story, you seem to have said the same thing.
Bye-bye, the day you skipped class
On the day when the flowers fall, the room in the classroom
How can I not see the disappearance of rainy days
I'd like to have another shower, but I didn't expect it.
I still have the courage to ask again.
Will you wait or leave, windy day
I tried to hold your hand, but on the contrary
It's raining so hard that I can't see you.
How long will it take for me to be around you?
When it clears up, maybe I'll be better.
Once upon a time, there was a person who loved you for a long time.
On the contrary, the wind is gradually blowing.
It's hard to blow the distance away.
Another day of love, but the end of the story
You seem to have said that again. Bye-bye.
