許多人可能知道，澳大利亞各地正處炙熱大火中。它已經燒毀了大約台灣兩倍的面積。
小火是澳大利亞生態的自然組成一部分，但這種大火是前所未有的。這不是意外事故或偶然發生的事件。這場大火發生的條件已經建立了多年，主要因素是氣候變化。氣候變化加劇了天氣事件，使其更具災難性。
當我們為澳大利亞人民和那裡的野生動植物的安全祈禱，並希望他們早日康復時，我們還應該花點時間思考這場危機的含義以及其根源。因為除非我們更改當前做法，否則它可能在任何地方發生。氣候變化不僅僅是澳大利亞的問題。世界各地成千上萬人面臨著火災，乾旱，洪水，海平面上升，強烈風暴以及天氣和農作物產量的變化。我們還受到氣候變化的影響。我們也是氣候變化的貢獻者。
因此，儘管我對台灣的政治了解不多，因此無法建議您應該投票給誰，但我只想對所有人說，當您投票時，請考慮一下氣候因素。您選出的各位官員代表需要認真對待此問題。因為影響很嚴重。而且它也剛剛開始。

As many of you probably know, Australia is on fire. It’s already burned an area roughly double the size of Taiwan. Small fires are a natural part of Australia’s ecology, but fires on this scale are unprecedented. It’s not a freak accident or random occurrence. The conditions for this fire have been building for years, and a major factor is climate change. Climate change is exacerbating weather events and making them more catastrophic. While we pray for the safety of the Australian people and the wildlife there, and wish them a speedy recovery, we should also take the time to reflect on what this crisis means, and what are the causes of it. Because unless we change our current path, this could be anywhere. Climate change isn’t just an Australian problem. Hundreds of millions of people around the world are faced with fires, droughts, floods, rising sea levels, stronger storms, and changes in weather and crop yields. We are also affected by climate change. We are also contributors to climate change. So while I don’t know too much about politics in Taiwan, and so can give no recommendation on who you should vote for, I just want to say to everyone that when you do cast your vote, consider the climate. Demand from your representatives to take this issue seriously. Because it is serious. And it’s also just getting started.
