Trái ngược với phỏng đoán của khán giả rằng hoàng tử Eric trong "The Littler Mermaid" live-action có thể là người da màu thì sáng hôm nay, Disney đã công bố danh tính của diễn viên sẽ đảm nhận nhân vật này. Theo đó, người sánh vai với "nàng tiên cá" Halle Bailey sẽ là nam diễn viên người Anh điển trai Jonah Hauer-King.
Sinh năm 1995, Jonah Hauer-King vẫn còn là một gương mặt khá mới tại Hollywood. Anh được biết đến qua các phim như: TV series ngắn “Little Women” và “Howard’s End”, phim điện ảnh “A Dog’s Way Home” và một phim truyền hình chưa được chiêu là “Once Upon a Time in Staten Island”.
Được biết, Jonah Hauer-King đã trải qua 2 vòng casting cạnh tranh với tài tử của series sci-fi "Krypton" - Cameron Cuffe. Sau buổi thử vai ngày 09/11 tại London với đạo diễn Rob Marshall, vai trò của anh đã được “chốt hạ”.
Ngoài Jonah Hauer-King và Halle Bailey, “Nàng tiên cá” live-action còn có sự góp mặt của Jacob Tremblay (Flounder), Awkwafina (Scuttle), Melissa Mccarthy (Ursula). Dự kiến, phim sẽ bước sang giai đoạn sản xuất vào đầu năm 2020.
