SYMBIOSIS 〰️ Throughout times, human’s footprint and use of natural resources has increased to the point where we now use half of the planet’s ice free land while the rest remains untouched simply because it cannot be used. Though it may not be our intention, it is human nature to continuously seek ways to mitigate life’s problems and instant gratification resulting in careless and unmindful uses of the planet’s resources. We have been living as creatures of comfort for centuries without thinking twice about the consequences of our actions and now we are faced with the ever more present damage we have caused to the earth, climate change.
Are we heading towards an extinction where we are the creator?
Symbiosis derives from two Greek words meaning “with" and "living." It describes a close relationship between two organisms from different species. It is sometimes, but not always, beneficial to both parties.
Our relationship to the earth can be categorized as parasitism more than mutualism. Parasitism is when one organism benefits from the relationship but at the expense of the other while on the other hand, mutualism is a close relationship where both parties benefit and many are long-lasting.As humans, I hope we can realize that it is our responsibility to restore our ecological system with a more sustainable practice of living and using resources in harmony with nature without exhausting it.
Symbiosis explores the relationship between human and nature through a personal performance where my breathe affects the mechanic control causing the paint brush to move. The movement of the brush represents human action towards nature represented by the water lettuces floating in a contained pool. The brush although causes ripples and movement in the water, the surfaces returns to its original state after it passes. Through visual presentation and the act of placing myself into the situation with control, I attempt to showcase a mutualist coexistent, a future in which I hope for the planet earth and humanity.

the end????
