Attended the wake of a good friend, Nachiappan s/o R K Sinniah, yesterday.
I knew him as Brother Nachi since the time we met 30 years ago. He was the leader of the PUB Staff Union. We were restructuring the power industry, and Brother Nachi played a big role representing the workers. His work continued in the Union of Power and Gas Employees, where he later served as General Secretary. After his term ended, UPAGE would pay tribute to his service by naming him Emeritus General Secretary. He will be remembered for his empathy as a union leader, and for just being a good and caring person.
We stayed in touch all these years. He would update me on things in the power industry, and send simple messages of feedback or support. Over CNY, while ill in hospital, he still wished me a “very Oxpicious lunar new year”. I replied to wish him the same, but sadly he has left us.
My deepest condolences to his family. He will be deeply missed. – LHL
