My parent told me that the first thing that they smell on the morning of a Chinese festival when they were young was the mushroom as every family soaked mushroom for the reunion dinner. But why mushroom? Shiitake Mushroom looks like a coin that symbolises wealth. The dried oyster 蠔豉 has a similar pronunciation as 好市symbolises good business and lettuce 生菜 has a similar pronunciation as 生財means growing wealth! So this is a very good dish!
