Presenting my animated and frisky little BUTTERFLY!

This girl has the funniest facial expressions and the most infectious laughter in our home, which is why it always makes me smile seeing her just being her bubbly self and finding joy in the little things around her.

Anyway, she came home earlier this month saying that there is a parent-and-child assignment where we need to come up with a DIY costume of an animal book character using only recyled materials. We flipped through many of her storybooks and went through a list of shortlisted characters before she eventually decided that she wants to be a pink butterfly. Yup, so pink butterfly it is.

What we used for the costume: Pink and black felt, ribbons, pompoms, pipe cleaners, press studs, cardboard, newspaper and stickers.

Yup, you might recognise her cardboard wings from a previous #Creativity521 project. Phew, so glad we still kept it intact all these years! Other than that, we did everything from scratch and it took me a few nights of sewing before everything was put together - the six legs took me the longest time. I didn't wanna use glue or tape for fear that the pieces will come off easily since she is going to wear the costume on her own in school, so everything was sewn by hand.

I know there are many areas for improvement, for instance the wings can be much bigger, the legs should be bent and so on. But, that huge beam on her face when she put it on and started to 'fly' showed how much she ❤ it and that's all I need to know.

Cherishing these opportunities to make memories that will last us for a lifetime. It doesn't matter if she wins or not because from all the smiles, joy and thank you hugs, we are already victorious.

May you continue to fly up high, believe in miracles and never give up when the end seems near - for it is just a brand new beginning of all things wonderful.
