Isaac, Joy and Papa Go Japan: Day 3 and 4, Higashikawa, Otaru, Sounkyo and Asahidake
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I did not plan to drive around the entire island of Hokkaido in the few days we had. It would not be practical or fun. So I decided to keep things within the centre of Hokkaido.
From Shikotsuko, we drove to Higashikawa (my favourite town) and stayed at my friends’ B&B. Dinner was spent watching the Rugby World Cup Finals with my friends (they were rooting for England) while Isaac and Joy played with their kids, who were a few years younger. Jody and Nina adore big sister Joy, whom they met when she came visiting during my solo trip with her when she turned 12, and the girls were happy to see her again.
The next morning, we set off again, without any plans once more. I thought, perhaps we could drive out to Otaru, just to have a look. Frankly, it was just an excuse to drive, as the drive itself is very pleasant. I told them, “Otaru is famous for their canals.”
Joy asked, “And?”
“That’s pretty much it,” I said. It is one big tourist trap, to be honest, and I told them, “Essentially, we are driving all the way to see Otaru’s Long Kangs.” They laughed and were cool with their father’s rather stupid travel plans.
“The canals are actually quite nice when it is winter, to be honest,” I added, trying to make it sound a bit more exciting.
When we got to Otaru, I found a parking lot near the canals and was quite pleased it said ¥100 for 30 minutes. After parking, I realized I read it wrongly and it was actually ¥400 for 30 minutes during the day, and ¥100 for 30 minutes AT NIGHT.
“We better not stay too long,” I told the kids. Joy, the financially-minded of the two, said, “Ya, not worth paying that kind of parking for Long Kang.”
So we snapped some photos, walked around the food court a bit, and then left Otaru. I figured we would get lunch further away, en route to Sounkyo, where we planned to stay the night.
Sounkyo is a quaint mountain resort area, located in Kamikawa. It is considered a touristy place, but a good base to hike Daisetsuzan National Park from. We stopped at a ramen place in Kamikawa called Yoshino, just off the highway. And wow, the ramen was great. They even had thick slices of Miton roast pork available as a side, in limited quantities. This is part of the fun of road trips: stumbling upon good places to eat.
After eating at Yoshino, we drove on to Sounkyo and stopped at the Twin Waterfalls rest stop. That was when we encountered some serious cold and wind chill. It was -1ºC and windy there. We looked at the majestic cliffs for a bit, stared at the waterfall which was not flowing very rapidly (Spring is when the ice melts and you get a grander sight) and then we ran into the souvenir store to enjoy some heat.
The store ladies were so kind, and offered us cups of soup. They had a hot pot set up with paper cups to serve their customers, and we were very thankful for the soup. So much so that I felt I had to buy some stuff there, in gratitude. I bought some sweets and grapes. You may have seen the Instastory of Joy and me eating said grapes in our ryokan later, and attempting to spit the seeds into the bowl.
I asked the kids if they wanted to climb the stairs to the viewing platform but the sign said, “20 minutes” and there was a sign to look out for bears. So we chickened out. Actually we were just lazy. It was too much of a climb on a cold autumn’s day just to see two off-peak waterfalls.
We finally checked into Kumoi Hotel, a nice little place that was renovated only two years ago. Many of these onsen hotels in areas like this tend to be old and tired. A couple of the hotels I saw along the way had signs with missing words in their names. But not the Kumoi.
The kids had to set up the futon beds themselves, something they learned to do in our first house, and I have to say, it is handy having two assistants to set up the beds.
At least this Sounkyo area had three restaurants open till 8pm, so we did not need to tabao food. We chose an Italian place called Bear Grill, run by a handsome old man who made great food.
We also stopped by the Seicomart, the FamilyMart of Hokkaido, to resupply our drinks and junk food. And then retired to our hotel.
Because the Kumoi has its own onsen baths, I took the kids to the baths and taught the son how it works. Joy already had some experience in our previous trip so she was fine. The son took some convincing. “Nobody will look at your junk lah,” I assured him.
I gave him pointers on how to use an onsen, like putting a small towel on his head, and using the same small towel to cover his lower bits. The butt, that one cannot cover, the small towel was not big enough.
The kids enjoyed the onsen experience thoroughly, and we vowed to do it again when we could. And we ended our night at Sounkyo with a movie screening in the room, where I introduced them to The Matrix. Suffice to say, their minds were blown.
The next morning we drove back towards Higashikawa and stopped at the Seven Stars Tree. It is a scenic spot where, I later learned, a famous oak tree, that was once used on the packaging of seven stars tobacco, stood.
I only found out when I got to the Tree. Great, we drove all this way to see a cigarette advertisement. But the view was really nice lah. So it was not for nothing.
We also made a stop at the Shirogane Blue Pond, which was recently upgraded with new viewing platforms and lights. There, we spotted some dumb tourists taking photos on a tree branch that grew over the water. This is why we can’t have nice things.
By then it was close to sunset, and I didn’t want to drive in the dark, so we drove to Hotel Bear Monte, near Asahidake mountain, where I booked a night in this bigger, fancier onsen hotel. It took a lot of talking to convince the kids that it is okay to walk around the hotel in our yukata. And even to have the buffet dinner wearing our takata.
“This is how the farmers used to do it, on their vacations to onsen hotels,” I told the kids. They looked a little skeptical but took to it eventually. So we walked here walked there, like a boss, in our yukatas.
Like Japanese farmers on their winter onsen vacations.

☀️ It's hot now. Let's go to the Escaping the heat to the island of Naw Op. Pearl of Burmese sea.
💛 Laying down, chilling water on a private island, beach, and under the sea. With a budget of thousands and only over an hour from Ranong!!
Welcome to Nava Opi Island or Myanmar people say Niao Opi. Many people wouldn't know how beautiful and easy the Burmese sea is. Some people might think that it's very far from Myanmar, but it's not easy to travel. We are going to travel to islands in Thailand. This is a private island and only one accommodation. But read this here, don't be panic and worry about the price. Because all of this, you can go with a budget of only thousands and all meals. Why is it so good? This is because of the collaboration to support tourism of 2 Thai-Myanmar neighboring countries. It's easy for people to appreciate the beautiful nature of this place. It's not anyone, but it's my sister Sam, Thai people. (The name will sound like it. Inter) and sister Sam is someone who persuaded and arranged a satisfying trip for Sneak Out on this trip.
🏊 There are many events here. From clear kayaking, snorkeling, black and snorkeling. From beach to island around the sea. The sea is as clear as many islands in the Andaman sea. This is the highlight which makes Naval Island. Opinion stands out from other islands, a very rare fruitful field of margaritas from snorkelling near the beach in front of the accommodation. They can barely swim to black out (but kayaking is less exhausting. ) Normally, these coral reefs are deep to see. In front of this beach, lobster and eel Moray that swims in the coral reefs with the main buoy. There are plenty of beautiful angles to take photos. Besides. The beach front that will be white, smooth and beautiful. There is a swing hanging from the trees to relax and see the view. Anyone who wants to see the high corner, there is also a view point on the mountain to walk to the view.
Another impression of this trip is that if you are lucky to find fishing boats, you can stop by to pick fresh fish from the boat. Maybe we can just exchange water for him and get fresh fish to eat for free because in the middle of the sea, clean water. It's worth more than money. It's not peak when you arrive at the island. The fresh fish that we have chosen will be brought into food for us. The cool one is to eat freshly. Eat raw fish sashimi, which is fresh and fresh fish meat. Very sweet. At first, I didn't dare to eat. I was afraid. But when I tried, oh!! I can't stop!!!!
And the beach which is the highlight of this place is Madam Beach. The blue water is very clear. To the most, the sand is white. Soft and smooth... Sand beach is not sand. Someone next to me can run down and snorkel from the beach. So happy.
The room is comfortable in private. There are many types of rooms to choose from. The room is attached to the luxury tent. The bathroom is en-suite and the new zone is also a villa zone. The electricity is also available for 24 hours, but the WiFi signal. The stuff here may be a little weak, but that's not a problem, because we're here to relax, right?
⭐️ Late night, there is a good show for you to watch. Both Burmese dance show and firework. The actor is hotel staff. Almost all Myanmar people. Some people speak Thai, some people can't speak, but everyone comes with a smile and smiles. Service heart, so language is not a problem. Tell me if you want anything! I can do it all. I have to admit that Myanmar people are very cute.
It's not difficult to travel to Nava Opi island. There are many ways to take a plane to Ranong or take a tour bus overnight. It's convenient because the island is only 1 hours away from Ranong city. It's a boat from Ranong side to stop by the checkpoint. People in Koh Song, take a boat to see island view, sea view. I will arrive soon.
⏺ When you read this, if you want to say, hurry up to reserve it. The sea is very beautiful. There are many ways to reserve it here. Reserve with Agency Tour or directly from the hotel.

food trip near me
Whenever I go to Tainan and tell my friends they are jealous, In a good way. If Taiwan is a cake, then Tainan is definitely the cherry on top. And sorry, I won’t mention all the beautiful places to visit here. Also - I will skip the fabulous historical part. I will go straight to the point - FOOD!
Recently, I was invited by the Bureau of Economic Development, Tainan City Government and NCKU Research and Development Foundation to a 3-day trip, and visited 20 shops. You can always count on the kindness and hospitality of the Tainan people. But don't worry, If I was invited, my camera was invited too, and that means I did my best to show off those places, and now I will pay back those nice people, and I am going to invite you on the trip too; are you ready?
PART 01 - When in Tainan, eat as the Tainanese do! - A guide to flavorful, popular (and English speaking) places serving Tainan food!
Taiwanese food is just extraordinary. Everybody loves it. No doubt about it. But now, you need to know that Tainan is the oldest city in Taiwan and because of that - the variety of foods is richer here than anywhere else. So I will introduce a few places around Tainan where you can get local food. So take your chopsticks in the hand and let’s commence our mouth-watering journey around Tainan!
(Zi long dian ya)
As a person born and raised in Europe, I am not really used to eating ducks the way they are usually served in Taiwan. I don't really like messing with bones. But here was a great surprise! They prepare meals removing bones. They sell duck with dried noodles or rice, and also have plenty of side dishes, too. The most special one is duck feet with cucumber, which is really good. Another thing is - the restaurant is located in a typical Tainan style neighbourhood near the old street, so after the tasty dishes you can stroll around there for a while.
(Mo mo cha)
It’s a chic tea house waiting for you in one of the narrow streets downtown in Tainan (walking distance from the train station). The owner showed and let me make my own matcha from dry tea leaves. Usually tea shops are supplied by whole suppliers (importing tea in bulk). However, this is not the case here - the owner’s family has run a tea plantation for 3 generations; you can taste and say - the tea flows through his veins! They serve a whole variety of delicious teas from Taiwan, for instance: high mountain green tea, oolong tea, tea with fruit juice, milk tea, and more.
The place has stunning interiors that are simple, but you can feel a Taiwanese coziness inside. Momocha is a great place to sit and relax, read a book. Just enjoy your gourmet teas and let time stop for a while.
Apart from the teas and drink you can also find here food, such as Gua Bao. If you speak a bit of Chinese you will know that Han Bao (漢堡) is a word for hamburger. Basically, it's a burger but instead of bread they use a steamed bun. If you are in Tainan it's a must try. :)
(Hé jì nèn gú fàn)
This is one very special Chinese restaurant. This place is particularly famous in Tainan because it’s already become a chain. Actually, the dishes are very simple - such as rice and meat, but…. the devil is in the details, and in this case it’s the special way they prepare their meats. Of course, that's the chef's secret, but they're delicious. The flag dish is braised pork with soft bones. And indeed the bones are so soft that you can easily eat them! Apart from that you can find other dishes, such as Braised Pork Noodles.
Sānchuán de mán jǐng)
100 stir-fried Taiwanese traditional food. You can see a lot of places with number "100" on the street in Taiwan and especially at night there are crowds feasting there. The number 100 in the name is not an accident here - it’s the price of most of the dishes on the menu - around 100$. Apart from Taiwanese delicacies - such a pig heart, intestines and so on, you can also order typical Japanese meals - such as freshly made sashimi, sushi. It’s worth mentioning that the owner is an eel farmer, so if you love this kind of fish, you will find great quality unagi here!
This is one of the five stories that are coming soon. Feel free to ask any questions you have, feel free to share and tag friends that haven’t been to Tainan… never, or not recently, and need to go there with you and… and…. and make sure you stay tuned because there are more stories coming soon!

I went on this trip with no plan whatsoever. Literally. I just booked my flight to Krabi Thailand and figured it all out as I went. I stayed at a really cheap hotel near the city center of Krabi, and I went and booked my tours.
The first tour I went on was out to the Phi Phi Islands. It was fabulous. We stopped of at a few different islands on the way as we snorkeled, went fishing, chilled on the beach, played in the water and so much more. The tour guides were fabulous. We took a speed boat that day.
My second day: I rented a motorcycle for 250 Baht/day (aprx. 10 dollars) and I just drove around. I hit up the Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Sua) and hiked up to the top... it was extremely tiring! I felt like Frodo and Sam from Lord of the Rings when they had to take the back way into Mordor up the big staircase (yes... i totally sounded like a nerd right there) I also hit up the Emerald Pool, hot streams, and anything else along the way.
Third and final day: I took a tour out to Hong Island on a long tail boat. On the way we hit up Red Island and snorkeled there. We stopped at another island... which I have since forgotten the name. and finally we got to Hong Island. We kayaked and it was just a blast.
If you ever want to go to Krabi, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an adventure!
On a technical note:
Film by Nathan Bartling using a Panasonic GH4 filmed at 4K/UHD resolution.
Edited using Premiere Pro CC
Barely any colors were changed in Post Production. This is literally all straight out of the camera. There were three shots that I stabilized at 15% and I believe about 5 shots with little color correction, but besides that it's all straight out of the camera.
I used a Glidecam HD 2000 for all of the smoothe "floating" shots

food trip near me 在 Bubzvlogz Youtube 的評價
Hello YT Family,
Today's Vlog:
Split happens,
Family Outing,
Trip to Giant's Causeway
I love samples!!!
Greetings from Split! Tim and I are here for the next few days to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary. Weather has been lovely and food has been yummy! It's our first proper vacation together alone since our honeymoon. It's been nice spending quality time together but it made us miss Isaac a lot. We can't wait to bring him on vacation with us in the near future.
A little update on our school building project. We have raised almost $45,000 so far (from your donations and tee spring sales). We're only $5,000 from our goal to build ANOTHER school for the children of Laos. I want to thank everybody's support so far. It's been tremendously inspiring. You have no idea what this means for the children. It would mean the world to me if you guys can keep the support going by purchasing a Unicorn tank top here: http://www.teespring.com/imaunicorn
You guys also requested the Corny sweaters back. That was another great surprise to wake up to. You can purchase the corny sweaters here: http://www.teespring.com/thecornykind
Ok, time to bed since it's going to be an early morning for us tomorrow. Sweetest dreams!!
Love, the Bubz family xo
