I've received quite a few messages with questions about start ups, and I'm sorry I can't answer them all. I will try to answer the questions that I think most people will benefit from in my feed.
This question is something I want to address because it is absolutely the wrong mindset to have when doing a start up. There is no book or secret sauce to success.
The secret to success is hard work. If you have an idea, you have to build a small version of it, show it to people, try to sell it, and if it doesn't work (it usually doesn't on the first try), then you fix it, and you try again.
That's it. Of course you have to do research to understand your customer and what they want. But at the end of the day, whether you succeed or fail will depend on how many times you continue to try to solve your customer's problem. You just have to keep trying different things.
The easiest way to get started is to set aside 2 hours every day. That's it, just 2 hours. That way, you won't feel like it's such a huge ordeal, especially if you still have your day job.
