I've been getting quite a lot of questions regarding costume making lately so I figured out that I should tell you guys a little on how I get started making costumes ! <3
Many of you asked if I know how to make costumes due to my fashion design background .. And the answer is No lol . I've been making my own costumes since 2008 , and I only enrolled into design college in 2011. I learnt how to use sewing machine from my aunty for a month and the rest were self taught through books and the internet !
I draft my own patterns and I use newspapers for drafting because you know ... Reuse and recycle lol ! My sewing machine is the cheapest and most basic model , and I'm still using it now since I first got it in 2008. o((*^▽^*))o
My serger machine is also bought from a second hand shop ! So you don't need fancy equipments to make costume ~ basic ones will do <3
Where do I get my materials ? I buy everything locally ~ because I prefer to touch and see if the fabric is suitable for my costume. <3
How do I make costumes so fast ? Actually it depends on what kinda costume it is ... Every costume for me is a new project , something different to discover ~ I've been making costumes for almost 7 years now and believe me most of these costumes still give me headache lol !
The only tips I can give you is that don't be afraid to start if you are really interested in making your own costumes ! Everyone has to start somewhere and with more practice , you'll just get better and better ! o((*^▽^*))o
I'm still learning till now ~ so many inspiring people around me with different techniques in making costumes <3 Never stop learning !
