今天，很榮幸邀請前美國副總統國安顧問葉望輝先生，分享他對中美貿易紛爭的看法。很少有國際友人，對台灣有如此深厚的情誼。
葉望輝先生來自 Idaho 州，他說，他希望台灣加強與美國各州的貿易、產業連結。許多時候，台灣的產業對某些州的產值貢獻，甚至超過中國，因此，如何正確的與美國地方政府交涉，將會有重要的角色。比方說，在 Idaho ，台灣是第二大出口目的國，中國則是第四大（2017)。
我則提到，台灣是美國的第十貿易夥伴，也是農業的第7出口目地國。台灣在美投資，高達340億美金，奉獻出高達32萬多個工作崗位，在對美投資、創造工作機會，我們有很大的貢獻。
我們希望，在世界的舞台，扮演更積極的角色，葉先生的回應是，台方應該主動提及我們要的角色，如果不提，就沒有回應。
台灣必須了解盟邦美國政治及經濟，對於民主黨、共和黨的理念、政策都要有充分理解，台灣對於美國的訊息，多半來自媒體翻譯轉述，葉望輝先生能以中文流利溝通，是台灣人了解美國共和黨思想模式的最佳機會。
最後希望，中共政權把中國人民的人權、健康、民生，做為第一優先，這樣的中國第一，才能讓亞太的安全、經濟，文明，能夠有更進一步的發展。
Former National Security Advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney, Mr. Stephen Yates, was invited to speak at a panel hosted by Taiwan NextGen Foundation in Taipei this Saturday. Mr. Yates commented on Taiwan’s positioning in the midst of rising tensions in US-China trade relationship and acknowledged that Taiwan’s trade and investments have supported hundreds of thousands of jobs creations in the U.S., according to the Department of Commerce. He further encouraged the government in Taiwan to initiate discussions on taking leadership roles in international affairs.
