At a special event to celebrate the ‘Brand New Heavies’ exhibit held at Pioneer Works—a not-for-profit, admission-free cultural center in Brooklyn, New York, founded by Dustin Yellin—curators Mickalene Thomas and Racquel Chevremont, collectively known as @deuxfemmesnoires. Sponsored by Gucci, ‘Brand New Heavies’ brings together work by Abigail DeVille, Xaviera Simmons, and Rosa-Johan Uddoh who use installation as a fundamental part of their creative practice to reimagine the ways in which art, place, and collective memory interact.
