Today, I went to a Chinese Kopitiam near my house. I order a nasi kukus from this Malay makcik, ‘satu nasi kukus sama ayam goreng ya”, Makcik replied,’boleh dik’. What amazed me is, her stall was between 2 Chinese food stall that sell bak kut teh and pork noodles. I see Malay Makcik and Chinese Uncle always talk to each other with respect and a SMILE!
Back at my hometown, Sabah, we all sit together at the same restaurant, no matter Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous Sabahan (Kadazan and etc). This is the ‘Normal’ situation in Sabah, racial harmony! However, the ‘New Normal’ in west Malaysia, which promoted by our Country Leader, telling us each racial are different and one is more superior than the other. No wonder, our racial harmony is almost non-existence.
However, Makcik and the Uncle from the kopitiam give me hope, one day all of us sit on the same table, no matter what skin colour we have!
When you are a kid, you are white as a paper, it is only become colour when someone taught you people are different based on their skin colour, religion or language. So we as a parents have the responsibility to teach the right thing to our kids (next generation)
BTW, Makcik Kukus fried chicken drumstick is mad crispy 😋
