★ 經營公司「槓桿」玩很大？---英文怎麼說？ ★

我一再再地在很多地方強調過，學習任何語言時，一定要把 "用法" 或是 "搭配詞" 當最小的單位(unit)去學習，才有可能真正的學好，也可以避免中式英文的侵入。

如果沒有這樣學，就會發生學了好幾年還是開不了口的窘境。因為大多學習者在背單字時，總是以“英文字”和“中文意思”的連結當最小的單位去學習。

例如leverage這個字，很多學生在背的時候第一步驟就是去查字典，查出「槓桿原理」或是「影響力」。這樣的背法，即便對於有語言天賦的人，「充其量」也只對閱讀和聽力 (receptive skills) 等接收技能有幫助而已 （speaking 跟 writing 屬於 productive skills)。知道意思是「槓桿原理」以後，

---有一些學習者就開始期待miracle會發生，有一天就會知道leverage這個字怎麼用。

---有一些學習者就開始努力亂用，所以當在跟朋友討論XX建設槓桿玩很大、某人投資槓桿玩很大時，就造出 "play very big leverage" 這種恐怖（or 有創意) 的中式英文。

而可悲的是，如此對leverage一字錯誤的認知，是很多考試測驗不出來的（不只國內的考試、國外的考試也是）。因此，即便得到XX英文背單字大賽的冠軍，可能還是滿口錯誤的英文。

「槓桿玩很大」其核心概念就是用很多借的錢（負債）去投資
因此英文比較單純，就是

to use a considerable amount of leverage
to employ great amounts of leverage

等等
這就是我所謂的「最小單位」

---藉由槓桿原理而作的投資叫 （to make an) leveraged investment
---操縱過當的槓桿叫 excessive leverage (2008 金融風暴惡化原因之一）
---增加槓桿程度可以直接用 to increase leverage
---槓桿程度叫 leverage level (如果前面講不止一家公司或是一家公司一段時間的槓桿程度，邏輯上很簡單要變成 leverage levels)

所以請不要再用 leverage 槓桿原理 leverage 槓桿原理 leverage 槓桿原理這種神經病的方式學習單字了。
