เชื่อว่าแฟนเกม The King of Fighters น่าจะจำได้ว่าเราเคยมีอนิเมชั่นแบบ CGi ของเกมออกฉายในชื่อว่า The King of Fighters Destiny ที่นำเอาเนื้อของเกมในภาค 94 มาตีความใหม่โดยทีมสร้างจากประเทศจีน และคราวนี้ภาคต่ออย่างเป็นทางการในชื่อว่า Awaken ก็กลับมาและกำลังเตรียมการสร้างอยู่ในตอนนี้แล้ว

The King of Fighters Awaken เป็นผลงานจาก iDragon Creative Studio ทีมสร้างอนิเมชั่นของภาค Destiny ที่ออกฉายในปี 2017 ซึ่งคราวนี้เป็นการดัดแปลงเนื้อหาของเกมในภาค 96 ที่ Kusanagi Kyo จะต้องเผชิญหน้ากับ Goeniz หนึ่งในสี่มารสวรรค์ของเหล่าแปดขุนพลโอโรจิ ที่มีจุดประสงค์ในการปลุกโอโรจิขึ้นมาเพื่อชำระล้างโลก รวมไปถึงการเปิดตัวคู่แค้นตลอดกาลของตระกูล Kusanagi อย่าง Iori Yagami อีกด้วย

แน่นอนว่าตอนนี้ยังไม่มีรายละเอียดเกี่ยวกับเนื้อเรื่องส่วนอื่นและตัวละครที่จะมาปรากฏตัวในภาคนี้เพิ่มเติม นอกจากวันฉายคร่าว ๆ ว่าอยู่ในช่วงปี 2022 ซึ่งคาดว่าทาง SNK น่าจะมีการเผยรายละเอียดของอนิเมชั่นเรื่องนี้ออกมาอีกในอนาคตครับ
