The Little Red Hen
The Little Red Hen is an old folk tale of the fable type, most likely of Russian origin.[citation needed] The story is applied in teaching children the virtues of work ethic and personal initiative.
In the tale, the little red hen finds a grain of wheat and asks for help from the other farmyard animals (most adaptations feature three animals, a pig, a cat, and a rat, duck, goose, dog, or goat[1]) to plant it, but they all refuse.
At each later stage (harvest, threshing, milling the wheat into flour, and baking the flour into corn bread), the hen again asks for help from the other animals, but again she doesn't receive any help.
Finally, the hen has completed her task and asks who will help her eat the corn bread. This time, all the previous non-participants eagerly volunteer, but she disagrees with them, stating that no one helped her with her work. Thus, the hen eats it with her chicks, leaving none for anyone else.

The Wolf and the Seven Young Goats
A mother goat leaves her seven children at home while she ventures into the forest to find food. Before she leaves, she warns her young about the Big Bad Wolf who will try to sneak into the house. The wolf will pretend to be their mother. The young children will be able to recognize their true mother by her white feet and voice.
The mother goat leaves and the seven kids stay in the house. Before long, they hear a voice at the door that says "Let me in children, your mother has something for each". A little while later, the kids hear another voice at the door. This time the voice is like their mother's. They refuse to open the door, and the wolf goes away again.

The mother goat returns home from the forest. She looks around and sees the wolf, fast asleep. He had eaten so much, he could not move. The mother goat calls to her youngest child to quickly get her a pair of scissors and a needle. She cuts open the wolf's belly. They fill the wolf's belly with rocks, and sews it back up again. When the wolf wakes up, he is very thirsty. He goes to the river to drink, but falls in and drowns under the weight of the rocks. The family lived happily ever after.
