I've been living in China for 11 years and I'm married to a Chinese Doctor for over 2 years now, how did we meet? This was a little more than simply boy meets girl as we both had difficult circumstances when we first met, I was still married (but going through a divorce), she was in a relationship, and well a ratty little 125cc motorcycle brought us together in the end, come and hear my Chinese wife Sasha tell you all about how we met from her side and some of the challenges she faced with her Chinese family and friends.
Cross cultural marriages and relationships are difficult but not impossible, if you can cross the cultural barriers and divides they can be incredibly rewarding. Sometimes you simply have to follow your gut feeling and take the plunge, and this was one of those times. Going through life it's difficult to know who you're going to meet, but as life continues and you gain more and more experience, there comes a time where you may think that the right sort of person for you just isn't out there. That certainly was the case for me until I met my wife, I had literally given up on finding the right sort of girl and had decided that I would simply have to settle for whatever was convenient in life which led to a disastrous failed marriage to a Hong Kong girl, but life has a way of knocking you off your feet when you least expect it, and meeting Sasha was one of those times.

I am often asked by inquirers wanting to study in Japan, about whether or not it's possible to make money and work while going to school here. Others want to know about jobs in general. I talk about the few jobs that I've had throughout my years in Japan. Ultimately, what I'm trying to get across, is that if you are open and flexible and think outside the box, it's possible to find ways to make money.
Hope this is helpful/encouraging in some way to those of you who STILL haven't quite got the courage to take the plunge and live overseas just yet.
