因為有不少朋友建議我,將日前臉書上“武漢肺炎發生率與致死率的國際比較”一文翻譯成英文,所以,就以英文版再次和大家分享,也謝謝大家的批評指教。
International Comparison of Incidence and Mortality Rates of COVID-19
In the statistics of the COVID-19 collected and published by the World Health Organization (WHO), only the numbers of confirmed cases and deaths of COVID-19 of affected countries are available, without taking the population of each country into consideration. It will result in a biased assessment of the COVID-19 risk for each country.
Better data for international comparison is incidence rates, which refer to the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases (numerator) divided by the number of the population (denominator) of a given country. As shown in Table 1. the incidence rate per 100,000 population was highest in Italy, Korean, Iran, and China (>5.0 per 100,000) and much lower in Japan, US and Taiwan (<0.5 per 100,000).
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in each country is not only related to its population but also dependent on the coverage rate of the COVID-19 virus test. The confirmed case number and incidence rate are relatively low for those countries where only the severe cases were tested for COVID-19 virus; and they are much higher for countries where severe, moderate and mild cases were tested for the virus.
Once a country changes its policy of virus testing, for example of testing only those who are seriously ill, the number of the confirmed cases and incidence rate will drop sharply in a short period of time, but its case fatality rate will rise accordingly.
The case fatality rate is the proportion (percentage) of confirmed COVID-19 cases who died from the disease. Its numerator is the number of confirmed cases who died from the disease, and its denominator is the total number of confirmed cases. It is for sure that the case fatality rate will be higher if the analysis is limited to severe cases, and it will drop dramatically if the analysis also includes moderate and mild cases.
As shown in Table 2, the case fatality rates are the same for severe (5%), moderate (0.5%) and mild (0.1%) COVID-19 confirmed cases in countries A, B, and C are the same, but
the overall case fatality rates per 1,000 confirmed cases are significantly different among the country A, where only test the severe cases (41 per 1,000), country B where both severe and moderate cases are tested (14 per 1,000), and country C where test all severe, moderate and mild cases (8 per 1,000).
Among the countries with more than 1,000 confirmed cases in Table 1, the overall case-fatality rates in Italy, China and Iran were all exceeded 3.5%. Obviously, the severe cases account for a relatively large proportion of confirmed cases. The overall case-fatality rate for South Korea and Germany was only 0.8% and 0.1%, respectively, where the moderate and mild cases account for a relatively large proportion.
When we see a rapid decline in the number of confirmed cases with a soared case fatality rate, we must first pay attention to the change in the country's virus testing strategy. The Director-General of WHO recently stated that all countries should be cautious for the case fatality rate of COVID-19 is rising! The conclusion that the Director-General was biasedly made without taking the change in the virus testing strategy into consideration. He made the matter worse by causing unnecessary panic!
In addition to the virus-detection strategy, some other factors such as age, chronic disease status, and quality of medical care also affect the case fatality rate. For examples, the fatality rate will be low if the patients in the hospital for isolation treatment are mostly young people, without chronic disease, and receiving good cares. If most patients are old, with chronic disease, and receiving inadequate cares due to limited hospital resources and manpower, the case fatality rate will become high.

taiwan population 在 阿滴英文 Youtube 的評價
Hello Internet, my name is Ray, I'm a YouTuber from Taiwan, and this is an open letter to the World Health Organization.
Dear WHO, I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but a lot of your members have been voicing support for the inclusion of Taiwan in the WHO.
Since the novel coronavirus outbreak was designated as a global health emergency, core WHO members and their heads of state and officials, including Justin Trudeau, Shinzo Abe, 7 American senators, and the European Union (and more), have called on you to grant at the very least observer status to Taiwan. Having said that, I feel like as a Taiwanese citizen, it’s imperative that we also speak up for ourselves.
Disease knows no boundaries. Taiwan’s participation in the WHO is crucial not just to Taiwan but also to the world. A concerted, global effort is the only way to ensure the health and welfare of everyone. The coronavirus that began in Wuhan, China, has already spread to other regions and countries, excluding Taiwan could make it a "blind spot" in the international response to the disease.
Additionally, back in 2003, the SARS outbreak resulted in 73 lives taken in Taiwan. If we had been included in the WHO back then, we would’ve had better understanding of the virus and maybe, who knows, more lives could have been saved.
But we’re not just here playing the victim here, Taiwan can help. Taiwan’s healthcare system is lauded as among the best in the world, and our medical standards are generally on par with top global countries. The inclusion of Taiwan in world health assemblies and events would enable it to share its invaluable experiences in combating SARS, Ebola and other pandemics, helping countries around the world, including China. With our universal health coverage, health emergency response, and professional medical training, Taiwan can benefit the world.
Now you might say, Taiwan’s already represented by China in the WHO, but Taiwan’s geological separation and its independent disease control system and air traffic management provide further justification to why the WHO must take different approaches to Taiwan and China amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Also, given our proximity, Taiwan is at the very frontline battling this coronavirus from China, and we are skilled, determined, and equipped with past experiences combating different viruses. Excluding us is putting close to 24 million lives and the global population at risk.
As a Taiwanese, as a member of the global community, I am asking you on behalf of the world to include Taiwan. By allowing our participation in the WHO, you will be realizing the organization’s vision of health as a basic human right and health for all without exception. Thank you for your time.

15 years is a long time. 15 years can change the way you look at everything. Arriving back in the UK I can't say I could be more at odds with the liberal globalist cult of British politics. We don't have to do any more than turn on the TV or look online to see examples of what happens when borders are not respected, when we undergo top down social experiments of mass immigration against the will of the populace. We don't need to look further than Hong Kong to see the dangers of authoritarian governments. We don't need to look further than Taiwan to see how fragile the world order is or how quickly everything could be turned on its head. We have become sedated with netflix and chocolates. We have been blind to the dangers of initiatives imposed on us by globalist elites who seek to undermine our way of life. Diversity of opinion with in a population is healthy. Diversity of peoples with ideologies in direct conflict with each other is the thing wars are made of. Borders are to be respected, borders must be upheld. Borders keep us us and our way of life safe. The more the border between hong kong and China is eroded the more pain conflict and strive we will see. The border separating Taiwan and China will only cause lose of life when it is eroded. We must not let this happen. We must stand on the side of democracy and freedom. Democracy, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom to critique the government, these are things that could be wiped out in a heartbeat. What has almost all of human history been of not tyranny of a minority over a majority.

taiwan population 在 serpentza Youtube 的評價
Is Religion banned? Will you get your organs harvested for practicing your faith in China? Will you be oppressed and suppressed? Will you be arrested? Are there Churches in China?
The Taiping Rebellion was influenced to some degree by Christian teachings, and the Boxer Rebellion was in part a reaction against Christianity in China. Christians in China established the first modern clinics and hospitals, and provided the first modern training for nurses. Both Roman Catholics and Protestants founded numerous educational institutions in China from the primary to the university level. Some of the most prominent Chinese universities began as religious-founded institutions. Missionaries worked to abolish practices such as foot binding, and the unjust treatment of maidservants, as well as launching charitable work and distributing food to the poor. They also opposed the opium trade and brought treatment to many who were addicted. Some of the early leaders of the Chinese Republic, such as Sun Yat-sen were converts to Christianity and were influenced by its teachings. By 1921, Harbin, Manchuria's largest city, had a Russian population of around 100,000, constituting a large part of Christianity in the city.
Christianity, especially in its Protestant form, gained momentum in China between the 1980s and the 1990s, but in the following years, folk religion recovered more rapidly and in greater numbers than Christianity (or Buddhism). One scholar noted that "the Christian God then becomes one in a pantheon of local gods among whom the rural population divides its loyalties".
Protestants in the early twenty-first century, including both official and unofficial churches, had between 25 and 35 million adherents. Catholics were not more than 10 million. Other demographic analyses found that an average 2–4% of the population of China claims a Christian affiliation. Christians were unevenly distributed geographically. The only provinces in which they constituted a population significantly larger than 1 million persons are Henan, Anhui and Zhejiang. Protestants are characterised by a prevalence of people living in the countryside, women, illiterates and semi-literates, and elderly people.
A significant number of members of churches unregistered with the government, and of their pastors, belong to the Koreans of China.[334] Christianity has a strong presence in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, in Jilin. The Christianity of Yanbian Koreans has a patriarchal character; Korean churches are usually led by men, in contrast to Chinese churches which more often have female leadership. For instance, of the 28 registered churches of Yanji, only three of which are Chinese congregations, all the Korean churches have a male pastor while all the Chinese churches have a female pastor. Also, Korean church buildings are stylistically very similar to South Korean churches, with big spires surmounted by large red crosses. Yanbian Korean churches have been a matter of controversy for the Chinese government because of their links to South Korean churches.
In recent decades the Communist Party of China has become more tolerant of Christian churches outside party control, despite looking with distrust on organizations with international ties. The government and Chinese intellectuals tend to associate Christianity with subversive Western values, and many churches have been closed or destroyed. Since the 2010s policies against Christianity have been extended also to Hong Kong.
