This year #Taiwan was named a “StarPerformer” in its score and global ranking in The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Democracy Index, moving up 20 places from 31st to 11th, and being upgraded to “#FullDemocracy.” Despite the bad year it’s been for #democracy around the world, Taiwan is proud to be on the front-lines of the push for progress and we’ll continue to work with like-minded partners to ensure the voices of all peoples are heard!
“The star performer, measured by the change in both its score and rank, was Taiwan, which was upgraded to a 'full democracy' after rising 20 places in the global ranking from 31st to 11th. Taiwan went to the polls in January 2020, and a strong voter turnout, including among young people, demonstrated the resilience of its democracy.”
