2 days ago, the broadcasting world lost a star. An icon. But her family lost their mom, their backbone and their everything.
And TKGS, we lost a fellow TKG-ian.

Alhamarhum Asmah Laili, was an icon and a true feminist. She proved how education is so instrumental in shaping one's identity. So effectively bilingual, she had taught the listeners how to speak english through Malay radio. So known for being a true cool cat, she rode a scooter everywhere she went. And so good at newsreading, she was not only the best newscaster but she trained your famous newscasters that you see on your TV screens and hear on the radio.
So charimastic and respected for her straightforwardness, she remains a radio mentor we love to call her ours. My biggest regret is I was too in awe of her to even strike up a conversation with her. If we talked, it was Mami Asmah who had started asking me questions and I will be holding down the quiver in my voice so that I wont look too uncool. I regretted not asking her about her cool younger years, her cool confidence and how she does it all. You know she's Sasha Fierce before Beyonce was.
She truly embodies the term : bintang yang disegani.
