✨in light of my recent video that may cause controversy among the righteous who believe i'm an ignorant know it all✨
Those who justify changing the ABC tones as a matter of accent and since many different accents speak English that there should be no 'wrong' or 'right'.
My argument is this - it really is not about accent at all. If a language you're learning is not your native tongue, you should get the tones right.
For example, if you were learning Korean, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Mandarin etc you would get the foundation of that language perfected. You wouldn't make up Japanese tones when learning Japanese to convenient your own accent....
Like when foreigners study in Beijing and their Mandarin tones and accent are spot on. It's because they put effort into learning the correct tones of the language they set out to master.
American/Scotland's (etc) native language is English so of course they speak English with an accent. But if a Scot were to learn Mandarin, don't you think they would learn the tones properly? 🙆🏻
So I will say this again, (to those applicable) Hong Kong your ABC tones are wrong.
BOOM.

If today is the last day to go anywhere you’d like,
where would you go? 🍃
I love traveling, and would try to visit South Korea almost every year (and stock up on one year’s worth of makeup and skincare products hahaha) ✈️ I have also been learning the Korean language because I absolutely love watching Korean dramas - knowing the language would make it so much easier not to look at subtitles sometimes 🤪
Obviously, plans for this year have been wrecked, but everyone’s in this together 🌏 Let this be the time for self-discovery, skills-upgrading, or simply to catch up on rest 😴 Hopefully we’ll overcome this crisis soon, and have our lives go back to normal 🙏

How to learn multiple languages at once? Here are some of my thoughts 💭
There are many methods you can use and the possibilities are endless! It's good to stick to a base rule that if you're a beginner in languages, first learn 1 language to intermediate and then tackle others 📚
🤓 I try to learn one language to an upper-intermediate level so that it's good enough to be a language of instruction for the other language. For example, once I learnt Korean to a good enough level, I was able to study Japanese using textbooks written in Korean.
⏰ You can also use the 80/20 approach if you're learning 2 languages at once. Spend 80% of your time on one (main) language, and then 20% of your time on the other language. This works best when they are two different languages or if you are intermediate+ in both.
📖 You can also choose separate days for separate languages. I found this method tricky for me because I don't always feel like studying the language I scheduled. If it works for you, that's great! I prefer to study multiple languages in little bits in one day (e.g. doing Spanish grammar in the morning, Korean vocab in the afternoon, and watching a French series at night, for instance)
📱 Finally, you can use different methods, notebooks, apps or systems for your languages. I know people who have separate YouTube accounts so they browse YouTube only in one language (and all their recommended videos will be in that language too). You can choose to have one app only for one language so you make that connection in your mind (E.g. Busuu is only for Spanish, Lingodeer for Japanese, and Duolingo for French). Whatever works for you!
What are your tips?

I have a weird habit of speaking in Korean when I wake up from anaesthesia. I'm not sure why it happens, but I decided to upload the video as I thought it would be interesting when viewed through a linguistics/cultural lens. And yes, I have of course learned Korean before - I don't think it's possible to magically wake up speaking a language without previous exposure. Thank you to all the views, comments, likes and subscribes! You guys rock!

I did a crazy challenge where I spent 24 hours learning Korean and then trying to talk to random Korean strangers in New York City’s Koreatown. This was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done for sure, but the results totally blew me away. Even though it was actually only about 12 hours of study time I ended up learning a lot!
If you’re learning Korean (or any other language) I think this method of language learning is actually really effective. Learn lots of sentences in your target language, record and imitate pronunciation as closely as possible, and then practice practice practice. Good luck!
