I came across this interesting piece about how the Chinese language is changing in China. People are using English words in spoken and written Chinese directly, without translating them into Chinese equivalents, or even transliterating them into similar sounding Chinese characters. It is easier to say GDP than 国内生产总值, and Wifi is Wifi.
This is causing controversy in China. Some think it is the practical thing to do – everybody knows what Wifi is, so why invent some unfamiliar Chinese term for the same thing? But others feel that the pure Chinese language is being polluted with foreign words. After all, some translations have been successful – Coca Cola 可口可乐 has a very appropriate meaning, and translating email into 电邮 is neat and succinct.
The same thing is happening to other languages too. If you listen to Malay spoken in Malaysia, or Tamil in India, you will often hear English words mixed in.
The reality is that a language is a live, changing thing. It constantly absorbs words, concepts and usages from foreign languages, so long as people are using it in their daily lives. Otherwise it becomes a dead language, studied by scholars but not spoken by ordinary people anymore, like Latin or Sanskrit.
We pay a lot of attention to languages in Singapore. We are doing our utmost to keep our mother tongues alive. These are live languages to be used, so we should accept that they will evolve and change over time. We need to speak and write them correctly, but also colloquially. Then we will really be cool, or as we say in Mandarin, 酷! :)

interesting english words 在 thefamily.uk Facebook 八卦
If you were to choose one inspirational person from your life, who would it be? Your mum? Your dad? Your teacher? Greta Thunberg? The world has so many motivational people out there, but it takes someone special to stand out to you personally. For me, that is my Dadajee!
I have always looked up to everyone in my family. My parents, for not only being present in my childhood, but for being involved; my aunt Dr Auntie, for being an amazing role model; and of course, my Mamajee Adamdidam, for being the bright spark in my life.
But Dadajee is something else altogether. He is all of these things – and more! There are over a million words in the English language, but not a single one can fully describe just how PAWSOME my Dadajee is!
Dadajee has always been the one everyone in our family looks to for advice. They say that with age comes wisdom, but as far as I can tell, wisdom came to him before age did! After all, he was the one that taught Mrs Mom, Dr Auntie, Mamajee, and everyone else the valuable qualities they have today – take, for example, speaking confidently, a skill which Dadajee taught so well it has even been passed on to Fatimah!
So earlier on, I said that there are no words to describe my Dadajee, but if there’s anything that comes close, it would be ‘jack of all trades’! That’s right, Dadajee is multi-talented, and even after knowing him for 13 years, he still never fails to surprise me with his skills. His many talents account for his ever-interesting personality – not a dull moment goes by when you’re with my Dadajee!
But most importantly, my Dadajee is LOVING, KIND, FUNNY and HUMBLE! If there is anyone I would follow in the footsteps of, it is my Dadajee. And what with the loss of our beloved Mamajee, when we were all struggling, Dadajee proved just how CARING he was by holding us all together when the glue that bound us weakened with the loss. Truly, I aspire to be just like my Dadajee when I grow up!
Dadajee’s 70th birthday is certainly a day we all look upon as a day to celebrate not Dadajee’s age, but himself, as a person with a brilliant character! After all, it is not age that defines a person, but their values and characteristics. Dadajee deserves to be celebrated, and we are all very lucky to have him!
Happy 70th Birthday Dadajee! May Allah make this a day full of joy and cheer. May He grant you many more happy, healthy years of life and may He reserve you the highest place in Jannah. Last but not least, I just want to say that I love you with all my heart, just as you are, and that I never want you to change, because you are already PAWSOME!
Love,
Omar Mukhtar - Dadajee’s 1st Grandson
p/s: Please come back to visit soon! All of your family here in the U.K. miss you very much…♥️

So finally you’ve opened your eyes
So, now, tell me why you’re too afraid
To even look me straight in mine
You angrily tell me that I’m late
Well, that may be so, but, baby,
I came running at my fastest pace
Yeah, my heart outran my body
As it flew to find you in this place
Seeing your hair flowing and your bright eyes glowing
Cuts me to the very core
After all the days we spent inside the same dream
I don’t want to let you go
Now that I am finally faced with
The voice I’ve known for so long
I don’t know what the words should be
The very first I say to you
Back in your past-past-past life I set out in search of you
And I’ve been looking every day
I followed the sound of your floundering laughter
And I let it lead me in the right way
Even if all-all-all of you disappeared
And pieces scattered everywhere
No, I wouldn’t waver, I would start back at one
And look for you all over again
Or maybe instead we’ll take the whole universe
Right back to zero where we begin
Where should I begin the story?
Wanna tell you everything that happened
While you were fast asleep
I flew through dozens of skies
To tell you of hundreds of millions
Of light years’ worth of prior lives
But now that I’m here and finally
See you reflected in my eyes
I just want to know you, play around and show you
Who it is that you can be
I just want to love you, every fragment of you
Right down to the pain you feel
Now that we have finally met
At many galaxies’ end
I don’t know how to hold your hand
So that I don’t break it
Back in your past-past-past life I set out in search of you
And I’ve been looking every day
Oh, I let the sound of your unfettered voice
And the shedding of tears lead me this way
So tell me, who’s gonna stop the two of us
On this the eve of our revolution
No more hesitation, I will put up a flag
To stake my claim on your heart tonight
‘Cause you took away from me the will to give up
My resignation to lose the fight

This time I whispered trigger words in 7 languages!
I whispered these languages almost for the first time, so it was soooo difficult to pronounce 🤣
I think that the language is interesting because the words that have the same meaning have different pronunciations in different countries🥰

interesting english words 在 Xiaomanyc 小马在纽约 Youtube 的評價
Today I decided to try to learn to speak Japanese by watching the entire first season of Naruto in Japanese in a single day, 10 continuous hours, with no English subtitles. The idea is: how much Japanese can I learn by completely immersing myself in Japanese with absolutely no English at all? Learning like a baby would? I know there's a lot of debate over whether it's possible to learn Japanese by watching anime, and in this video we’re going to find out. It’s a crazy experiment that I’m not really expecting to succeed very well but I think the results will be interesting.
Unfortunately, due to copyright reasons I’m not able to include any of the original video or audio from the Naruto episodes, but I will be including cards that summarize the plot as I watch the videos, and also discussing my experience learning Japanese along with any words or phrases I pick up as we go through the videos.
