PART 04 - Traveling around the… table - marvelous exotic food in Tainan
Everybody knows Tainan is famous for unlimited number of snacks, night markets and traditional, special Tainan foods. But, what if somehow you want to take a break from that and want to try something truly exotic? Do you need to go to the airport and fly to another country? Well, that’s an option. But, don’t worry - there’s no need to look for your passport if you’re already in Tainan. Why? Because there are lots of mouth-watering dishes waiting for you right here in Tainan. Together we can explore a few of them. So are you ready?
Option number one: How about some Indian food?
Maharaja Indian Restaurant
From time to time I crave some Indian food, and Maharaja is a good option. They have decorations that transports you to an Indian Palace, they play Bollywood music videos in the background and they have a solid menu - from Indian curries, kebabs, naan (Indian bread you can soak in sauces) and also typical drinks (mango lassi, Indian spiced teas. They also have starters, for example samosas - Indian fried dumplings. The food is really good, I got my favorite dishes including: palak paneer - spinach and cottage cheese sauce, chicken tikka masala, yellow masala lamb curry, chicken kebabs and more. All these delicious dishes were nicely washed with a mango lassi - Indian style of yogurt. Gotta admit - I loved it.
Option number two: Are you craving for some good Japanese food? Great - I have an excellent place just for you.
1.2KG Kitchen
Roasted beef steak, Pork fillet, Japanese bbq beef, cheese donburi, Japanese fried chicken (the difference between Taiwanese and Japanese style is that the one from Japan is juicier, Taiwanese style is usually crispier). You can also find hot pots and other dishes at 1.2KG. I love all the dishes - especially the steak.. I am usually a bit sceptical before ordering cheese in restaurants in Taiwan, but the bbq cheese donburi was truly delicious - hands down.
Apart from the tasty dishes, the interior of the restaurant is really stylish and the ambiance is great. You can really feel that the owner put lots of effort into it. You can take lots of great shots if you bring your camera along. The decoration is a bit of a fusion between Japanese and European styles. It feels really good :)
Option number three: Would you like to try the most famous south east asian cuisine here in Tainan? Let’s go Thai then!
A Taste of Thailand
The place is well decorated and a cute elephant statue welcomes you from the street. I am always happy to eat some Thai food, and this restaurant made me happy as well.
Usually when I go to Thai restaurants I order my favorite meals: stir-fried spicy minced beef, shrimp pancake and green curry. They also have quite a selection of seafood dishes, steamed fish and steamed shrimps. I started with green papaya salad - it’s a healthy crispy dish full of veggies and unripe papaya. Yummy! Apart from that I tried the rest and I must say all were really good - but the spicy minced beef remains my favorite. If you are in Shanhua this restaurant is definitely a place to visit!
How about some dessert?
Sunny Mango Gelato
Yujing district of Tainan is mostly famous for its mangoes. But there is way more to discover in that area. Apart from the gorgeous views you can also visit Yujing Old Street. One of the highlights of that place is a real gelato shop.
What is gelato? It’s Italian word that means “frozen” but most commonly it’s known as Italian ice cream. The difference between gelato and ice cream is very subtle - basically gelato is more icy and thick, ice cream is more creamy and soft. There is quite a selection of flavors - from classic ones (fruit, chocolate) to very special flavors (Sun Moon Lake tea, Taiwan beer flavor). Also, I believe the flavors change from time to time, so each time you come you can get some surprises. My favorite gelato was passion fruit, mango and sesame. But let’s be honest - everybody likes a different flavor, so the only way to find out which is your favorite is…. going to Sunny Mango Gelato!
Feel free to ask any questions that you have, feel free to share and tag friends that haven’t been to Tainan before or recently, and need to go there with you and… and…. and make sure you stay tuned because there are more stories coming soon!

(English version below)
STRIKING RICH WITH THE RICE BIN
............................
When I was still a youth, one day, I suddenly realized that I was perhaps too thin and it was time to beef up my physique. Firstly, I would be able to protect the people around me, and also look better and healthier on the whole. Thus, I increased my food intake, borrowed a pair of 9kg dumbbells from my classmate, diligently did push-ups and sit-ups, as well as used other exercising equipment. These were my indoor exercises. As for my outdoor activities, I mostly and frequently did swimming. My favorite strokes in the pool then were breast-stroke and the butterfly stroke. After every lap, I liked to get onto dry land and do sit-ups and push-ups. I dare not say how great my body was, however I did received praises from other men and women. At the very least, I did not have excess fat hanging off me.
Besides those indoor and outdoor body-building activities, I also had a special training method: carry rice sacks. Yes, you heard it correct. My father was an intelligent but strict disciplinarian, and I was often afraid yet in awe of him. One day, I summoned my courage and told him that I would like to help buy rice for the household. He agreed with a slight smile. Ever since my birth into this Samsara world, this was my first time experiencing the weight of lifting 10kg rice, with my left and right hands carrying 5kg respectively. Coupled with the journey to and fro, a famous Chinese poem seemed to sing from my heart:
Neath the midday sun he hoes his crops
His sweat moistens the soil between the stalks
Of food on the table who recalls
Each grain is produced through bitter toil
This experience was indeed something! As I got home, my dad still greeted me with a slight smile. Although my first experience of buying rice was refreshing and tough, I did not have any thought of backing off. I considered it as a good opportunity to repay my parents, and to strengthen my physique at the same time.
Master Dai Hu sincerely wish that everyone would gain wisdom and discern the true from the false, destroy evil speech and dishonest practices, not have fear and deranged delusions, have bliss and freedom and finally leave the realm of sufferings. There are many people who place a huge self-importance on their physical appearance. To have a graceful figure so as to reach the level of being one with their clothing, (laughs), they would burn their boats and forsake eating rice, all in the name of beauty. This is especially common among the ladies. The fact is that these ladies do not understand the benefits of eating rice for the human body.
The rice grain is birthed from the dew of Heaven and the spiritual qi of earth. It is an important source of survival energy for humans. It can serve as an antidote to poison, for removal and transformation of vile energies, consecration, curing of illnesses, beauty care, skincare, etc. After losing weight successfully, many ladies get stricken with ailments. Although there are several reasons to this, it is not far from not consuming rice. The city of Chao Zhou is famed for producing beauties, renowned for their distinctive elegant and almond-shaped eyes and porcelain skins. Why is that so? Because rice porridge and steamed food are staple foods of the people in Chao Zhou. The rice minerals prevalent in rice are vital minerals that the human body needs.
There are numerous types of rice, with the commonly seen grains like the pearl rice, Indian basmati rice, the Thai jasmine rice, brown rice, glutinous rice, etc. These various grains each have their own elemental types. If you are very clear about your favourable elements in your Bazi, you can purchase the suitable grain type, to gain prosperity everyday through your daily consumption. This is the first technique to striking great wealth. It is simple yet brings practical benefits. I pity the misbelieving men and women, who spent huge money only to act ignorantly, get drained of energy, and at the end, brought nothing but trouble to themselves and their families.
Today, I, Master Dai Hu, impart this method out of compassion for the sentient beings, and hope that those who benefits pay it forward to accumulate more hidden merits. After purchasing the right type of grains, store it in a wooden rice bin, and paste a paper, with the Chinese character "滿" written on it, onto the bin exterior. This is the second technique to more riches.
If you wish to place the rice bin on top of a cabinet, please place it away from the window, even better if it is at a spot that can accumulate Qi. This is the third step to greater wealth. This method of striking riches with your rice bin is applicable for everyone and every household. Get ready to welcome the days of great harvest and rice clothing!

Saravanaa Bhavan
KL │ How to order delicious vegan Indian cuisine
Saravanaa Bhavan is a multinational South Indian vegetarian restaurant that I have been to once in HK, this time I'm going to try the one in KL.
I always don't know how to order Indian food, I think many of you may suffer the same situation. Today I am going to share how to order delicious vegan Indian cuisine with limited English.
1. First explain that you don't eat egg & milk. Many curries are pre-made and it is difficult to take out milk at the spot, so be clear to the staff, my excuse is: I am allergy/sensitive to milk, my body will be uncomfortable, I may need to go to hospital after eating milk 🤣 Well, I do feel a little uncomfortable when I eat milk.
2. In addition to let the staff directly introduce you the dishes, you can act like a friend and chat with him, ask him which dish he likes the most, and then check with him if there is milk.
3. Before deciding to order, I usually look at the staff again and ask cutely: Are you sure I will like this dish? After he said yes, I will say: Good! I believe you! (with a big smile) 🤣
SEE! look at my dishes, my travel companions and I were very satisfied with the meal, although I don't know much about what I ate, but it is delicious! I especially like the triangular Dosa, with potato mash inside, it's slightly spicy, but still good! The curry is not spicy, eat with the rice and Roti please! Even the green mint-flavored drink is recommended by the staff. He said it is his favorite. It tastes good!
I felt really happy with the meal, so at this moment, I would look at the staff and put my thumbs up. The staff even came over and chat with us a bit. Everyone was very happy, nice~
the above is just my own experience, feel free to share yours with me~

how to order indian food 在 Spice N' Pans Youtube 的評價
Singapore is a multiracial and multicultural country with ethnic Chinese (about 76% of the citizen population), Malays (15.0%), and ethnic Indians (7%). We also have Eurasians as well as other non-Singapore citizens in Singapore. Given our racial proportion, one would have imagined that our coffeeshops or foodcourts only have Chinese, Malay or Indian food but no matter what, there will always be one stall selling what we term affectionately as Western food. In case you're wondering how a Western food stall looks like in Singapore, just google it and there are plenty of images out there. Interestingly, the Western food we get at coffeeshops or foodcourts are usually marinated in Chinese style. :)) We grow up eating this type of Western food and we love it! My favourite order at a Western food stall is always chicken chop. Roland's favourite is mixed grill because he likes variety. What's yours?

mr.hotsia travel to singburi province THAILAND. at night i walk around singburi night street food. i order roti you can see how to make roti at singburi night market.
Roti is generally a South Asian bread made from stoneground wholemeal flour, traditionally known as atta flour, that originated and is consumed in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. It is also consumed in parts of the Southern Caribbean, particularly in Guyana and Suriname. Its defining characteristic is that it is unleavened. Indian naan bread, by contrast, is a yeast-leavened bread. Roti is sometimes referred to as "Kolcha" in Indian cuisine, albeit this term is seldom used outside of the Indian subcontinent.
