In hot and humid Singapore, one thing we all appreciate, and some even consider essential, is air-conditioning. 80% of homes and nearly all office and retail buildings have air-conditioning. This consumes lots of electricity, and generates lots of greenhouse gas emissions.
I don’t think we can do away with air-conditioning, so we are pursuing more efficient ways to cool our environment. This Bloomberg Green article describes the district cooling system in Marina Bay South. A centralised cooling plant runs chilled water through a network of underground pipes. It services a large area including Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, and the Marina Bay Financial Centre. This centralised system saves around 40% of energy, translating into lower emissions.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) has introduced requirements for refrigerators and air-conditioners, such as “climate-friendly” labels, and phasing out the use of high-GWP refrigerants. By raising our air-conditioner temperature setting and using energy efficient appliances at home, we can help lower carbon emissions too.

I was delighted to meet the Jitilon family who heads the initiative by Gamut - Forever Sabah in managing organic waste and turning it into high quality compost.
There are numerous flaws and inefficiencies associated with Sabah’s current waste disposal model. At present organic waste produced by Penampang District is mixed with inorganic waste such as plastics etc. and sent to a nearby landfill. Disposing of waste in this way is costly both in terms of carbon emissions and wasted taxpayer dollars. Additionally, as it decomposes organic waste produces a gas which is high in methane, a greenhouse gas that is contributing to climate change. Waste contains valuable minerals that can be used to increase crop yields without dependence on synthetic fertilisers. Numerous local stakeholders have expressed interest in using this valuable resource more efficiently including the hawker association of Penampang’s wet market (PENAJA) and a representative from the Penampang District Council. This project will construct a composting centre in Donggongon Township, Penampang in order to reduce the transportation expenses and increase accessibility to the general public. The project will begin by collecting waste from two local markets but ultimately aims to expand its activities and serve as a model to other markets throughout the state.

Why "Beyond Meat" could become a famous topic today?
As far as we know, emissions of the greenhouse gas methane from livestock are larger than automotive industry; and even greater than previous decade.
The development of Beyond Meat products may be one of the way to replace real meat and help to reduce the greenhouse gas methane. We expect to see it becomes more mature and has lower cost so that more people can go vegan.
Let see which plant-based meat is best.
As we all know the world is changing, a lot of companies are producing 'plant-based meats' to help the earth.
The company says plant-based meat alternatives are better for consumers and better for the planet, requiring less land and water and producing fewer greenhouse gas emissions than meat from cattle.
