Alhamdulillah, all praise is due to Allah for the endless blessings He has showered upon me and my family. After a long wait, I am finally able to unveil my #SECRETPROJECT with all of you who have been kindly praying and patiently waiting…
I AM OFFICIALLY A TEDx SPEAKER!
Yes, I have been blessed yet again with another amazing opportunity! I received this blessed news on the same day I received my double award way back on 8th October. But, since this event was strictly for KES students, parents, teachers, school governors, and Old Edwardians (alumni) only, I was not allowed to announce it until after the event.
I had to go through several stages before even getting selected as one of the speakers. First, I had to write a proposal about the topic of my talk, and fortunately, they were interested in my topic, so they called me in for the next stage, which was an interview. At this stage, I wasn’t putting much hope into getting this, as the possibility to get selected was very narrow, cos the competition was high. But, all praise is due to Allah and only Allah…I passed the interview! And the best part was that I was the only student - out of hundreds of KES students - who had been selected.
I can’t describe how proud I am to have the honour of giving a talk alongside 7 other adults - a Professor Emeritus from London, a Deputy Medical Director who recently won an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire), an actor who has also worked in large-scale science communication, a Physics and Philosophy student from the University of Oxford, an engineering graduate from Durham University, a fourth-year medical student from the University of Birmingham, and the chief executive of Wildlife & Countryside Link.
The main theme for the whole event was 'The Future Of Everything', and my chosen topic was 'Do You Speak The Future?', a talk discussing the future of language and how we can predict it. I’ll discuss about my topic in the next post. For now, allow me to personally thank each and every one of you who has been supporting me and praying for me tirelessly. May The Almighty reward all of you abundantly…

I’m from a small village in Vietnam. Stanford University was a distant dream. I never thought I would end up here. The first time I applied, I was rejected. I decided to travel instead. I had very little money at the time, so I started writing to make money. I spent three years traveling and writing stories about people I met on the road. I ended up publishing two books in the process. After this adventure I applied to Stanford again, and I was accepted.
As an international student, I was always afraid of public speaking because I worried that nobody would understand my accent. I never learned English properly, only through speaking to people as I traveled. ENGR103: Public Speaking helped alleviate this fear. The lecturer and the TAs do a thoughtful job creating an environment where it feels safe and normal to make mistakes. I came to see that I wasn’t the only person who was nervous about public speaking, and that there are many techniques I could employ to improve. Practicing in this setting gave me the confidence to speak publicly in classes and in social situations.
My personal experience has taught me that information is always more compelling when it’s shared as a story. In my current work, I’m combining my storytelling skills with the logical frameworks I’m learning as an engineering student. - Chip Huyen, BS, MS '18, computer science

You can change the world with a graduate degree in biostatistics!
Recently the President of the National Health Research Institutes, Dr. Kung-Yee Liang, met with the press to discuss Taiwan’s progress related to synthesizing a COVID-19 vaccine. He remains very optimistic about the future of biomedical research in Taiwan following COVID-19. Dr. Liang, a world-famous biostatics professional and a University of Washington grad, was recently selected by UW’s School of Public Health as one of 50 “changemakers.” Dr. Liang also leads the research team at Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
Graduate students in biostatistics learn ways to develop statistical methodology and theory for scientific research within health-related fields. Students can earn either a Master of Science in Public Health (MS) or a Master’s in Public Health (MPH). The typical master’s level program takes between two and three years. Most biostatisticians work in the biotech industry, for pharmaceutical companies, in research organizations, in managed care companies, or as teachers in schools of public health, medicine, math, or statistics departments. Are you ready to come and study biostatistics in the United States!
