National Junior College welcomed its first students in 1969. I joined this pioneer batch in their second year. I had completed my Higher School Certificate (equivalent to A levels) in Chinese, and spent an extra year in NJC before doing my NS, so I count as a 69er too. Meeting so many fellow 69ners last night at the NJC golden jubilee brought back fond memories of our time together!
NJC was Singapore’s first JC. 50 years later, the college spirit remains strong. NJC still produces graduates who excel academically and in life. NJCians older and younger have contributed much to the progress and success of Singapore.
NJC has maintained its ethos of keeping its doors open to all. Our schools are crucial places where students from different social backgrounds can interact and break down social barriers.
Happy 50th Anniversary, NJC! May you continue to blaze new paths and produce new generations who take Singapore forward. – LHL
