Sieng Kee Restaurant 翔记饭店 can be found a little deep inside of Simpang Ampat, slightly off the beaten track (of the main streets in Simpang Ampat). The restaurant has been there for a while and is one of the favorite go-to-places for those staying in the neighborhood. Most regulars walk in just to order some simple stir fries for takeaways. But Sieng Kee offers way more than the usual Chinese stir fries, it is also a Seafood restaurant; the menu features a big range of Seafood dishes with the most popular ones being the Crabs. There are 2 parts to the restaurant- diners can opt for the outdoor seating or the indoor air-conditioned space; tables on both sides are spaciously arranged. As for the price tags, food items are reasonably priced... pretty decent for a Seafood place in Penang state.

A short drive from the Thai-Malaysia border, Maimoke Restaurant can be found at Sadao district... the Thai restaurant is popular amongst travelers driving from Malaysia to Hatyai, as a pit-stop for meal. The restaurant is surrounded by greens, allowing diners to enjoy their meal amidst nature; every corner of the place is picturesque. The menu is not shabby either, with plethora of Thai dishes to choose from. The Spicy Curry Seafood Omelette is one of the most-praised dishes... with loads of Seafood in a light but eggy Egg foam. Equally good is the Fried Seabass with Mango Salad... with crispy Fish served with tangy Mango Salad with plenty of Thai crunchy elements. The prices are generally more wallet-friendly than most established restaurants in the city... definitely one of the better places to drop by for a meal before hitting the city.

Chinese Fried Rice is a simple and yet difficult to master dish but once you get the hang of it, you can fry this super yummy easy meal anytime.
This is our Din Tai Fung inspired Shrimp Fried Rice. In case you haven't heard about Din Tai Fung, it is a chain of restaurants originating in Taiwan. Back in 1993, New York Times ranked them as the Top 10 Best Restaurants in the World. In 2010, the restaurant's first branch in Hong Kong at Tsim Sha Tsui was awarded one Michellin star and their second branch at Causeway Bay was also recommended by Michellin Guide. Although Din Tai Fung is known to specialise in xiao long bao (Chinese steamed dumplings), their egg fried rice with pork chop is also really popular amongst diners. Of course that includes us :). We actually stood outside DTF kitchen to figure out what ingredients were used. Opps - I hope we won’t be banned from Din Tai Fung because that’d be tragic. Whenever we dine at Din Tai Fung, fried rice is one of our must-order dishes but instead of ordering shrimp fried rice, we always go for their pork chop fried rice. OMG so good! I'll get Roland to show you how to prepare their pork chop next time.
Many different cuisines such as Indonesian, Malay, Japanese, Thai etc today all have their own version of fried rice but did you know that fried rice was actually first developed during the Sui Dynasty in China? This means that all variety of fried rice available in the market today can actually trace their origins back to Chinese Fried Rice.
Sorry I digressed...Back to this recipe - if you don't like prawns, please feel free to omit it.
See the ingredient list below or go to our website here : http://spicenpans.com/chinese-fried-rice/ for your easy reference.

Teochew cuisine, also known as Chiuchow cuisine, Chaozhou cuisine or Chaoshan cuisine, originated from the Chaoshan region in the eastern part of China's Guangdong Province, which includes the cities of Chaozhou, Shantou and Jieyang. Teochew cuisine bears more similarities to that of Fujian cuisine, particularly Southern Min cuisine, due to the similarity of Chaoshan's and Fujian's culture, language, and their geographic proximity to each other.[1] However, Teochew cuisine is also influenced by Cantonese cuisine in its style and technique.[1]
Teochew is a Chinese dialect group and Teochew people are Han Chinese from the historical Chaozhou prefecture (now the Chaoshan region) of eastern Guangdong province. In modern days, most Teochew people live in Guangdong province, and outside of mainland Chinese in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore. Of course there are also Teochew in other parts of the world depending on where their ancestors migrate to in the olden days as they left their hometown in order to escape from a series of civil wars during the Jin dynasty (265–420).[info from wikipedia]
This hei zho or fried prawn rolls is a Teochew dish which is also very popular in SIngapore. If you like to make this recipe at home, you can see the ingredient list below for your easy reference.

Thai basil chicken (also known as Thai Holy Basil Chicken) is one of the most popular dishes in Thailand. Typically, you can find all kinds of meat such as pork, chicken, beef, and seafood stir fried with Thai holy basil and garlic. Roland has cooked a drier style in this video but if you like some gravy in your dish, add some water or chicken stock and thicken the sauce up with some cornstarch solution before serving. Let us know what you think of this recipe.
