US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo condemned China’s attempts to leverage economic power against countries that have dealings with Taiwan during his recent address to the #Czech Senate. He also condemned the recent imposition of the national security law in #HongKong, China’s attempts to dominate the South China Sea and the imprisonment of #Uighur Muslims in internment camps in China, which he referred to as “the human rights stain of the century.” He praised the President of the Czech Senate’s decision to realize his late predecessor’s long-held ambition to visit Taiwan later this month.

It infamously canceled the PFK Philharmonic's trip to Beijing for something as simple as the mayor's efforts to deepen ties with Taiwan. Shanghai canceled its cooperation with Prague after this city signed a sister-city agreement with Taipei. Look, you all see this. The CCP leverages economic power to coerce countries. Recall that the Chinese embassy in Prague sent a letter to your former senate president, who had hope to visit Taiwan. [...] The letter read as follows, 'Czech enterprises with economic interests in China will have to pay.'"
