《＃愛不由自主》的電影意涵
開場印入眼簾的是《＃美麗蘿賽塔》的電影海報，這或許也成了行定勳想以此片為中心，致敬經典電影的開端。拍出17歲少女的青春時期，面對現實的不順遂，想要與他人有所隔絕的情感，加上兩者皆有一幕幕換穿鞋子、特寫雙腳的鏡頭，來到《愛，不由自主》成了渴望被擁有、合腳的愛情，以及寧可裸足受傷，也要飛奔到愛人身邊的衝動，標準王道的二選一。
原著中泉與葉山以電影串起的交流，同樣透過兩人在「成瀨已喜男」導演的經典回顧展巧遇，《＃浮雲》《＃女人步上樓梯時》登場的皆是不願為了小三離婚的男人、《＃流浪記》女人之於愛情的各種選擇。《愛，不由自主》藉由電影中的電影，不斷加強兩人之間複雜的愛戀與關係，尤以透過最會描寫大環境下女人生存的成瀨已喜男，再次帶出本片的主旨「大人的戀愛也是很辛苦的」。
此外，《＃隣の女》同樣也是丈夫重逢多年的愛人，兩人舊情復燃男方內心卻又充滿罪惡感；泉在葉山家中發現《＃在黑暗中漫舞》（母親為了兒子醫藥費而逐漸失明），其實是這老師妻子喜歡的電影，兩人的尷尬就像是DVD上印著女主角頭像的包裝，代替妻子介入一般，而兩人皆喜歡的西班牙導演 Víctor Erice，電影中同樣出現多次，透過一段對話更可以說是彰顯兩人的關係：
「你可以在客廳看電影，直到早上」
「如果能這樣也好，我也有新買的《＃南方Elsur》」
「那部電影也不錯，但是我更喜歡《＃蜂巢幽靈》」
「我喜歡《南方 El sur》的父親和女兒之間的關係。」
《南方 El sur》描述深愛父親的女兒，長大後卻發現父親似乎有了另一個女人的存在，《蜂巢幽靈》描述陷入幻想世界的安娜，在山中小屋找到帶著懷錶的軍人，幾天後卻發現父親帶著懷錶，而那個人卻消失了...
不管是行定勳還是島本理生，在故事中加入許多電影做伏筆與暗喻，如此地大費周章，就像是將兩人的關係藉由其他的電影作品，丟到另外一個平行時空檢視。然而，醉翁之意不在酒，就當作這些都是電影中的小彩蛋吧。
