So, now we have this adorable new baby to adore and love and smoother with our kisses.
It’s easy (when we’re looking through our thousands of baby photos) to forget that while we may “look” like we’ve pretty much recovered, (after we tuck our flapping belly skin into our pants) we are far from it.
Apparently 50% of women suffer from back pain after delivering their baby. 50%!!
Our uterus expands during pregnancy and our abs are separated which pulls the lower spine forward, straining out back.
Also, carrying the baby, picking up toys, changing diapers, and bad posture also doesn’t help with the achy back.
Remember all those fun hormones surging through our body to help us loosen up the ligaments and joints so that we can push out a baby from “down there”?.... Yeah, those are unfortunately, still keeping our joints loose and, jiggly?
Things will hopefully get better and back to “normal” around 6 months, but here are a few things which can help in the meantime:
Husband massages. If husbands aren’t available. Wife massages. Boyfriend massages. Girlfriend massages. Colleague massages. Massage massages. Chair massages. Roller massages. Massages. Just massages. Oh they feel so darn good.
Move it, move it. Walk. swim. Dance. Stretch. Walk. Walk some more. Just move a bit. Even at home you can do it! I know that’s probably the last thing you want to do when you’re feeling sore and in pain, but moving around helps.
Rest if you can. I know. I know. When is there time?! And isn’t that contrary to what I just said above?! Well, you gotta make time for both. Moving. And resting.
Use a body pillow or pillow in between your legs when you sleep. It helps align the hips and just feels good.
And probably most importantly, hold your baby properly. This is key. We’re either breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, holding, cuddling, rocking, soothing, changing diapers, bending over, leaning, and overall just straining our back muscles. A way to prevent further injury is to make sure you have the correct posture and are using the correct muscles to do all of the above.
These are just a few basic tips to help ease some of the pains we have. Mommy,

📝A Farewell Letter from AIT Director W. Brent Christensen
"As my time as AIT Director draws to a close and I prepare to leave Taiwan, I want to take this opportunity to tell you what this experience has meant to me. It is not an exaggeration to say that this has been the honor of my life and the fulfillment of a career-long aspiration.
The first time I left my hometown at age 19, it was to come to Taiwan. From that early age, Taiwan became synonymous for me with the ideas of exchange and understanding, exploration and adventure. Taiwan represented both disorienting foreignness and unexpected opportunity, as I tried new food – like shuijiaos and qiu doufu – and learned to navigate my way through streets crowded with bicycles and scooters. And struggled to make myself understood with my rudimentary Mandarin. But all the while discovering the kindness and generosity that welcomed me wherever I went.
It felt appropriate for me to serve my first tour as a U.S. diplomat in the place that first sparked in me a lifelong interest in Asia – and in Taiwan in particular – and in cross-cultural understanding and shared purpose, or in other words, diplomacy. After that, my career took me to other places, but mostly still in the China region. But the memories of my experiences in Taiwan stayed with me. And finally having the opportunity to serve as the top U.S. diplomat to Taiwan was the culmination of all the years that came before. It is clear that I have a lifelong connection to Taiwan, or “yuanfen,” that has led me to return again and again.
People often ask me why I have such a fondness for Taiwan. “Isn’t it obvious?!” I always think. But when forced to explain my affection for and professional fascination with Taiwan, I usually come back to a few themes.
First, dynamism and constancy; progress and preservation; innovation and tradition. Every time I return to Taiwan, I am immediately struck by the many ways Taiwan has advanced as a society. Taiwan’s democracy grows more mature, its economy more prosperous, its environment more cared-for, and its arts and culture more vibrant.
Taiwan’s industry continues to set the benchmark for global innovation in some of the most sophisticated technologies, but at the same time, Taiwan society is remarkable for its stability and cultural continuity. Taiwan’s people, despite their relative wealth and stature, continue to be modest and unassuming. Taiwan’s most ancient traditions are alive and well. Cultural and historic sites are restored and preserved. Young people may learn calligraphy techniques handed down for generations, but then share their work on Instagram.
Second, for the United States, Taiwan exemplifies the intersection of shared interests and shared values. Our partnership is about making sure our economies are beneficiaries rather than casualties of technological development and ensuring that technological development advances rather than undermines our principles. Our shared values of freedom, diversity, equality, and transparency inspire our efforts to build the resilience of democracies around the world. And we continue to find new ways to contribute to global problem solving, both because it benefits our own peoples and because we share the belief that this is what it means to be a good neighbor in the 21st century.
Finally, I associate Taiwan – and the broader U.S.-Taiwan relationship – with hope, promise, and growth. This friendship has expanded and flourished over the past 40 years; I believe every person who has done this job walked away knowing they left this partnership better than they found it. I will similarly leave AIT with a sense of accomplishment and success, knowing that the U.S.-Taiwan partnership is deeper and stronger than ever, and feeling immensely proud of my small role in getting us there.
But more than any of these things, I will remember the ways that Taiwan has touched me personally. I will always remember my first Christmas in Taiwan – and my first Chinese New Year. I will remember the warmth of Taiwan friendship, the faith of my fellow church members, the taste of a mango bing on a hot summer day, the echo of “Fur Elise” from the recycling truck, the fragrance of jasmine blossoms in village alleyways – these are just some of the memories I will treasure. I will remember the long dinners with dear friends, full of laughter and stories. And I will remember their many kindnesses. I will remember all the ways big and small that you, the people of Taiwan, touched my life and the lives of my family. And for that, I thank you.
I may be leaving Taiwan, but Taiwan will never leave me. "
-- AIT Director William Brent Christensen

The cover of this week’s issue of The Economist, which calls Taiwan “the most dangerous place on earth,” prompted a great deal of discussion on our national security.
The article highlights the threat that China’s military expansion poses to the Taiwan Strait and surrounding areas. I hope the Beijing authorities come to realize that the PLA’s actions in this regard contradict their own proclamations of China’s “peaceful rise” and are only driving greater international concern.
But though Taiwan does face a real threat from China, I want to assure everyone that our government is fully capable of managing all potential risks and protecting our country from danger.
Over the past few years, we have stayed on top of shifts in international supply chains and developed closer economic and security ties with our global partners. We have also actively worked to strengthen our national defense, especially our asymmetric capabilities. Taiwan is fulfilling our responsibility to uphold regional peace and stability. Our position remains consistent—we will neither bow to pressure nor act rashly when we have support. This approach has earned us international recognition as a responsible force for good in the Indo-Pacific region.
Taiwan stands on the front lines of democracy worldwide. As long as the people of Taiwan remain united and uphold our core values while responding prudently to regional developments, we can overcome the challenges posed by authoritarian expansion. I trust that our like-minded partners, having seen the risks involved, will rise to this challenge and work together to maintain peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.

【Purpose of the video】
To encourage Cantonese learner to keep it up,
and make more people be interested in Cantonese!
I'm from Taiwan. I have some special feelings about Hong Kong
because my mother is from Hong Kong.
Though I am half from Hong Kong, I can't really speak Cantonese.
I always want to mater my mother's language, Cantonese. It has been difficult
because I didn't have the language environment when I was younger.
Then, the time I'm with my Hong Kong friends becomes the important time to learn Cantonese.
While learning Cantonee, I find it is very difficult because of the tones, slangs etc.
and I believe that many Cantonese learners have the same feelings!
I make this video to pass the message that:
Cantonese is not easy to learn, and let's find out good ways to learn it. Speaking perfectly or not is not the thing we should care about. Never give up learning Cantonese since we all have love toward it.
Let's learn Cantonese together and make more Cantonese speaking friends!

【The Empire】的五名團員,現在都已經是音樂圈裡知名的音樂人;

因為音樂,變成了好朋友;
用著音樂,療癒安慰彼此;

【The Empire】,
The Empire is Mandarin music producer, Skot Suyama’s Seattle-based band that was formed in 1997 while they were in high school. Other than Skot, whose influence as a hit-making producer is prominent within the Asian region, Melissa Reese is also part of American legend Guns n’ Roses’ world tour. While Matt Gervais is part of well-known American band The Head and the Heart currently touring across the U.S. Mike Gervais also writes children’s music, releasing an album Mikey Mike, The Rad Scientist. Tobias Burch occasionally makes funeral doom music with his band, which consists of only himself, Amort.
Never The Point was written when Skot returned to Seattle one year, and because he had recently broken up with his girlfriend (who he later married), wrote the verse and chorus for it on the plane. When he got home and met up with his five friends, the other band members quickly threw out more lyrics and ideas, to create this song and cheer up the broken-hearted Skot.

Never The Point
Music/Lyrics: Skot Suyama (陶山), Melissa Reese, Matt Gervais, Mike Gervais, Tobias Burch
Should I remove the tattoos that I got for you?
nah fuck that shit, I’d rather play it cool
Cause nobody knows what life could bring,
and then everything is just everything
And I always thought that you could be my wife
But everybody changes, that’s the nature of life
And if you be friends to the very end, we can just pretend
But that was never the point of you and I and us,
Never the point, baby, of love
You know your heart’s the only thing you can trust
Don’t let your mind fuck you up too much
But if it gets in the way, then all I can say is
‘I’ll miss you when you're gone’
And I’ll try my best to move on
Do I remove the tattoo that I got for you?
Or do I put you through the pain that you put me through?
Do I hate you and blame you? Wish I never had dated you?
Or take a little vacation, get away, and hope that someday I’ll forget you?
Cause to me, love is dead, you went and shot it in the head
I bet you’ve never have guessed it be hard to stay friends
While my heart’s still so broken
But that was never the point of you and I and us,
Never the point, baby, of love
You know your heart’s the only thing you can trust
Don’t let your mind fuck you up too much
But if it gets in the way, then all I can say is
‘I’ll miss you when you're gone’
And I’ll try my best to move on
Well, it didn’t take too long, for us to know
we’d be lovers and nothing more
But it feels so wrong singing love songs
just to prove ourselves to each other darling over and over again
But that was never the point of you and I and us,
Never the point, baby, of love
You know your heart’s the only thing you can trust
Don’t let your mind fuck you up too much
But if it gets in the way, then all I can say is
