今天的故事有點長，得從一開始講起。
我們在上海租的公寓位於一個非常老舊的社區，鄰居們幾乎都是上海本地的老爺爺、老奶奶，我們這種年紀的居民算是蠻稀有的。只要不是冬天太冷，家家戶戶的大門幾乎都是敞開的，一覽無遺（大概除了我家是大門深鎖😂），樓下的社區公共區域還可以看到一堆老爺爺、老奶奶一起打牌、針織、聊天的和樂場景。
我們家隔壁住了一位老奶奶、一對約60多歲的夫妻，和他們的兒子。我們剛搬來時曾向他們借過電鑽之類的工具，有時也會給他們一些蔬果，關係蠻友好的。
前天我正做飯到一半，突然他們來敲門，手上端了一個大托盤、少說有50幾個生水餃。那位先生開心地說，週末他們自己在家包餃子，也想與我們分享。
我很不好意思地解釋因為我們吃素，如果餃子有肉的話，我們雖然感謝，但實在不能接受。他有點驚訝，只好又把那一大盤餃子端回家了。當天稍晚，我給他寫了一張小卡，解釋我們不吃動物的原因，以及再次感謝他們的用心。後來話題開了，也針對素食這個主題聊了一下，決定下次換我們請他們過來吃頓素菜。💚
說真話不容易，但如果你是用真心去說，我相信對方能夠感受到的。

We live in an old apartment complex where the residents are generations of local Shanghainese. When it's not winter, you can see grandpas and grandmas chatting, knitting and playing mahjong in the common area downstairs, and many households keep their doors open so there's zero privacy (except for our apartment, maybe).
Our neighboring apartment is a family of a grandma, a couple in their 60s, and their son. We've borrowed some tools from them when we first moved in, and we maintain a friendly relationship in general.
Last weekend while I was cooking, there was a knock on the door. When I opened the door, I saw our neighbor holding a tray of at least 50 dumplings that they had just made for us. I felt so bad, but I had to reject him because those weren't vegan. Later that night, I wrote a card explaining why we don't eat animals, and expressed our gratitude to them for thinking of us. I'm happy that we got to chat a bit when I handed them the card, and next time we'll invite them over for a vegan dinner.
It's not easy to speak your truth sometimes. But if you say it with a genuine heart, I believe others will appreciate it. 💚
