Archaeologists estimate humans have tattooed themselves and each other for about 12,000 years. John Yuyi has updated this ritual for the social media age. The Taipei-born, New York-based artist became an Instagram sensation for applying her Facebook profile as a temporary tattoo on her face, reflecting our complex relationship to online expression, identity, and desire for approval. This series expanded to include likes, messages, avatars and logos, inking flesh, even temporarily, with the digital structures we inhabit and are now a part of us. John Yuyi shows how aesthetic taste and desire (here for Gucci’s Le Marché des Merveilles watch) is more than skin deep. – Text by New Territories (Samantha Culp)

THE JOURNEY BRINGING VIETNAMESE COFFEE TO THE WORLD
“To make a success and keep it sustainable, and to build a heritage that lasts – this is my ultimate goal” - CEO Le Hoang Diep Thao
Madame Le Hoang Diep Thao is the co-founder and co-owner of Trung Nguyen Group – a proud national brand of Vietnam. Taking charge of chief execution and management role over the past 20 years, Thao has proven herself as a bold leader who can make strategic decisions that boost Trung Nguyen’s growth as one of the largest coffee makers in Asia.
Thanks to Madame Diep Thao’s vision and leadership, Trung Nguyen has risen from zero to the No.1 coffee brand in Vietnam, remaining the fast-growing pace and the leadership position up to now.
G7 – a signature instant coffee brand enjoyed by more than one billion people in 60 countries and territories worldwide – is not only a success of Trung Nguyen and Le Hoang Diep Thao, but also a notable achievement of a coffee nation like Vietnam. It was Thao who decided to start the instant coffee business of Trung Nguyen in 2003, making a transformative change to the coffee corporation which had already established its reputation for roasted, ground coffee. With G7, Trung Nguyen became even more powerful.
Giving all her heart and passion to the development of Vietnamese coffee, Le Hoang Diep Thao started a new chapter of Vietnamese coffee in 2015. While still owning Trung Nguyen, Thao launched a new coffee brand dubbed King Coffee. After making a successful debut in the USA, the most demanding markets of the world, King Coffee has quickly expanded its presence in large international markets like China, Russia, South Korea, Australia, France, the Netherlands, Singapore, Thailand, etc. Just three years from the debut and King Coffee has been now available in 61 countries and territories globally, highly praised by experts and trusted by consumers.
Many experts attribute the impressive success of King Coffee to Thao’s over 20 years of management experiences at Trung Nguyen. Surprisingly, Thao has another answer: “This (success) is because King Coffee is proudly originated from a coffee-growing country, while some other strong coffee brands in the world are not. Vietnam boasts the best Robusta quality and is the second-leading Robusta exporter of the world.” King Coffee production plant built in Nam Tan Uyen, Binh Duong in just five months to ensure an ample supply of King Coffee for global demands is the demonstration of CEO Diep Thao’s unwavering commitment to bringing Vietnamese coffee into the world.
King Coffee is the fruit of two decades of hard working and challenges overcoming. It also reassures CEO Diep Thao’s passion to gain Vietnamese coffee a decent position in global coffee map. With King Coffee, CEO Le Hoang Diep Thao enables Trung Nguyen International to write the next chapters that complete the legend of Trung Nguyen.

Video Title: Has KFC Conquered Asia?
"We’ve already covered McDonald’s on this channel, and, well, now it’s time for some KFC. Kentucky Fried Chicken is the world’s second largest restaurant chain after McDonald’s, with over 23000 outlets in more than 140 countries and territories around the world. Now recently, the number of KFC outlets has been declining in the US, but the company has actually continued to grow over in Asia. In fact, KFC’s largest market lies on this continent (we’ll get to that soon). KFC was founded on March 20th, 1930 in Kentucky, with its very first franchise opening in Utah in 1952. Just a year later it made its way to Canada; and in 1965 the first overseas franchise outside of North America opened in the UK. Now it’s from this point where KFC enters the Asian market (well before McDonald’s); and, in this video I’ll be taking you through the next 54 years of KFC's Asian ascension. So, which Asian country was the first to open a KFC? What did KFC have to sacrifice in order to compete with local markets? And how much of Asia is there still left to conquer, as of today? Indeed we’ll get to all of that, so grab a Zinger burger, maybe some drumsticks, and we’ll explore every Asian country to have ever had a KFC!...

[HAS MCDONALD'S CONQUERED ASIA?]
If McDonald's were a country, it's revenue would make it the 105th largest economy in the world, surpassing the GDP of Estonia, Cambodia & Afghanistan.
The number of McDonald's employees worldwide would be more than the entire population of Iceland, Barbados and Samoa.
It's a big company, but it wasn't always that way.
McDonald's was founded on May 15th, 1940 in San Bernardino, California - that's over 77 years ago - and has since expanded to a 120 countries and territories around the world, serving 68 million customers each day.
It took 27 years for the first McDonald's to appear outside of the US, and 31 years to make it's way to a second continent.
THIS continent was Asia, and in this video I'm going to take you through the next 46 years of McDonald's' Asian ascension.
So, which Asian country was the FIRST to open a McDonald's? What did McDonalds have to sacrifice in order compete with local markets? And how much of Asia is there still left to conquer, as of today?
We'll get into all of that, so grab a double cheeseburger (maybe some fries), and we'll explore every Asian country to have ever had a McDonald's.
Welcome to McAsia.
Some notable McDonald's branches in Asian countries are:
- McDonald's Japan for being the first Asian McDonald's ever.
- McDonald's Singapore for having the oldest McDonald's employee worldwide at 93 years old.
- McDonald's Malaysia for being the first McDonald's in a Muslim-majority country.
- McDonald's Turkey for being the first McDonald's in West Asia (Middle East).
- McDonald's South Korea to be the first to sell alcohol (beer).
- McDonald's Russia for having the largest McDonald's outlet in Asia in Pushkin Square, Moscow.
- McDonald's Israel for having the healthiest McDonald's in the world.
- McDonald's Saudi Arabia for oddly taking out a full page ad in a Saudi national newspaper swearing loyalty to the new crown prince.
- McDonald's India for being the first McDonald's in South Asia, as well as having the first vegetarian McDonald's in the world.
- McDonald's Pakistan for having served the Taliban at one point in time.
- McDonald's Georgia for having the chain's most exquisite outlet.
- McDonald's Iraq for only having ONE McDonald's outlet for the US Army stationed in Baghdad.
- McDonald's Kazakhstan for being the first McDonald's in Central Asia.

Video Title: How Hong Kong Became a Giant Refrigerator
"Here’s a statement: over the last 50 years, Hong Kong has become a giant refrigerator. Despite its hot, humid, subtropical climate, the city remains an icicle all year round. But what do I mean by this? Well, Hong Kong has a bizarre problem. It has developed an obsession with air-conditioners so extreme it no longer makes any sense—winter coats are needed during the sweltering summer, and ACs are blasted in the midst of winter. There are many countries around the world that use and abuse their air conditioners—Singapore, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the US, to name a few—but Hong Kong (the city I grew up in), takes all this to a whole new level. So this raises questions—why are there so many ACs? Why is the temperature set so low? And—strangest of all—why can‘t they just turn it off? With Hong Kong, the answer is never simple..."
