Sukan Olimpik Rio menutup tirai hari ini. Kontinjen negara pulang dengan 5 pingat: 4 perak dan 1 gangsa. Ini pencapaian yang terbaik oleh kontinjen Malaysia dalam sejarah penyertaan kita dalam temasya Olimpik. Kalau di campur semua pingat yang dimenangi daripada edisi-edisi Olimpik sebelum ini, jumlahnya 6. Kali ini 5. Tahniah kepada kontinjen kita.

Walaupun Negaraku masih tidak berkumandang di Sukan Olimpik, saya bangga dengan pencapaian para atlet kita. Mereka berjaya menyatukan rakyat dan memberi sinar harapan kepada semua tak kira bangsa, usia mahupun latar belakang.

Saya tahu Lee Chong Wei sangat sedih dengan keputusan perlawanan akhir. Berat mata memandang lagi berat bahu yang memikul harapan negara selama sepuluh tahun lebih. Kepada Chong Wei, anda tetap kebangaan negara. Anda tetap hero kami, rakyat Malaysia. Terima kasih kerana berjuang habis-habisan selama ini. Anda mendapat penghormatan setiap seorang rakyat Malaysia.

Kepada Wee Kiong dan V Shem, Liu Ying dan Peng Soon, Pandelela dan Jun Hoong, dan Azizul: tahniah dan terima kasih kerana menjadi kebangaan negara, berdiri diatas pentas dunia sebagai juara. You're all the best and you have inspired generations of Malaysian athletes to come.

Terima kasih juga saya ucapkan kepada predecessor saya, Dato' Shabery Cheek. Anda telah mulakan Program Road to Rio selepas London 2012 yang telah saya mewarisi dan meneruskan. Ini hasilnya boh! Kemah keming Kemamang!

Namun fokus kita sekarang mesti beralih ke Tokyo 2020. Perancangan kearah 2020 telah bermula dengan pelancaran Program Podium pada Februari tahun ini. Saya akan tekankan lagi pembangunan para atlet pelapis dan penerapan sains sukan melalui Program Podium dan Program Kita Juara. Saya yakin dengan perancangan yang baik, Tokyo 2020 akan mengakhiri penantian Malaysia untuk mendapat pingat emas.

Sekali lagi tahniah kepada wira-wirawati negara. I will look back on Rio years from now with tears in my eyes and pride in my soul. Because you all made me believe that we can achieve greatness and a nation united.

我小時候暑假天天都打球和打電動，每天跟朋友好好玩。現在當爸爸每天都叫Ryder寫中文作文，看英文書，覺得自己很兇忘了當小孩的樂趣。他說家裡的XBox One都是我在玩，感覺不公平。今天買了新遊戲MineCraft讓他玩，是我朋友介紹的，好像還不錯。遊戲我聽過，蠻有創意，也沒有暴力。我和詠嫻有時候都會忘記他才八歲，就是要開心的玩過暑假。I remember as a kid just playing ball and video games all summer break. Everyday was awesome playing with my friends. Now that I'm a dad, I seem to have forgotten the joys of being a little kid. We make Ryder write Chinese essays and read English books everyday. He always thinks it's unfair that only I get to play the Xbox One so we went out and bought a game for him today that many dads recommended. So far so good, no violence and a lot of creativity. Heard so much about the game before but had never let him play until today. Sometimes I forget he's just an 8yr old little boy and just needs to have fun. I have a weird habit of speaking in Korean when I wake up from anaesthesia. I'm not sure why it happens, but I decided to upload the video as I thought it would be interesting when viewed through a linguistics/cultural lens. And yes, I have of course learned Korean before - I don't think it's possible to magically wake up speaking a language without previous exposure.
