A project that my friend is working on and thought I'd share some of his pictures with you. A thoughtful gift and a timely reminder to cherish what we have.

Lao Diam
In my 15 years of photography, the most common thing I hear from subjects is that they never receive the photos that people take of them, so I decided to prove otherwise that not all photographers are like that.

In the spirit of giving and as a birthday project for myself, I took portraits of the folks who work/own the old shops (Lao Diam) near my home in Commonwealth Zhup Lao. I printed the very photographs that I took and gave it them back while shooting them again reacting their photographs.

You have to know that these shops have been around for 30-40 plus years. So my intention was to also give these people a piece of memory to hold on to before the whole area gets removed from the Commonwealth en bloc project and let them remember their Lao Diam the way it was!

Here is Esquire Singapore's national day issue Common Man spread featuring Singapore's answer to Sean Connery, veteran actor Choo Hou Ren 朱厚任, as a very dapper "limpeh" owning the roads of Singapore.

If you're wondering how we we pulled this off? Well... we excuted this in the wee early morning hours in the Arab Street area because that simply was really was the only time we could put furniture in the middle of the road and do whatever we want.

The awesome 朱厚任 got into character very quickly being the professional that he was. Each shot really didn't take more than 10 minutes. This was one of the most guerrilla shoots that I have done on the roads and it was, for a lack of description, freaking crazy!

Thanks to the A team who made it happen!!! I shall now break into a 双天至尊 song now~....
