Happy National Day and SG50!

Exactly 50 years ago, a radio announcer read the Proclamation that marked the birth of our nation. This morning, at National Day Observances, we remembered and celebrated that pivotal moment. We heard the Proclamation again, this time read by the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew (in a recording done in 2012).

We have come far in 50 years. While we enjoy today’s prosperity and progress, never forget how hard we worked to get here. What we have is special and precious, and must never be taken for granted.

Today we sang Majulah Singapura proudly. To still do so in 50 years’ time, let us work together as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion, for the happiness, prosperity and progress of our nation. – LHL

Tomorrow is our 50th birthday. In my National Day Message, I look back on how the Republic of Singapore was born, how we overcame many challenges, and built a nation.

Tomorrow, on our Golden Jubilee, we celebrate 50 years of peace and security, how we turned our vulnerabilities into strengths, and most of all, our journey from Third World to First as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion.

As we rejoice in the success of the last five decades, let us also pledge ourselves to our shared future, to build a better home for our nation, our children and ourselves.

I’ve been spending the last two or three weeks studying Wolof, a West African language spoken in Senegal, the Gambia, and Mauritania, and today I’ve come to Harlem to try it out in NYC’s Little Senegal neighborhood, including at the Malcolm Shabazz Harlem Market and the great Senegalese restaurant Le Baobab on 116th street.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to try Senegalese cuisine, I would highly recommend checking out the ceebu jën (also spelled thieboudienne) here, which is Senegal’s national dish! It’s also the origin of the popular Nigerian and Ghanaian dish “jollof rice” — the word “jollof” actually originally refers to Wolof!

I learned by chatting with Awa on Italki for 1-2 hours per day. If you’re interested in learning Wolof or French (she’s a native French speaker as well), I would highly recommend booking a lesson with her — she’s an absolutely amazing teacher! https://www.italki.com/teacher/6971240

ピンク色・キラキラしたもの・キレイなものが好きです。

息子（おうい）：ひめちゃんが弟の名前は「おうじ」がいい！と言ったことから、
「おう」と付く名前を検討したことが名前の由来。
ママが大好きで、いつもべったり。
おねえちゃんのことを「あーちゃん」と呼び、
ひめちゃんが帰宅すると抱きついてお迎えするおねえちゃんっ子。
こわがりをなおして強い男の子になれるよう努力中。


父：ママとは５年間付き合って結婚。
結婚して１年後にひめちゃんが誕生。１男１女のパパ。
現在ゴールドジムに通っており、背中に鬼の顔を出すのが目標。

母：子供２人を完全母乳で育てたのがちょっと自慢。
ひめちゃんは４歳の誕生日に「今日からママのおっぱい飲まない」
と言って母乳を卒業しました。
おうくんはまだ母乳を卒業していません。
自立のため本人がやめると言うまで続ける予定。
